Companies love to generate buzz around their latest and greatest, promising devices that will revolutionize our lives.

Sometimes, these products deliver. But other times, they crash and burn in spectacular fashion. Enter the Rabbit R1, a portable computer that’s become a poster child for how not to launch a product.

The Rabbit R1, a voice-controlled AI device that can handle various tasks such as internet searches, music playback, and ordering services like DoorDash and Uber, is set to receive updates addressing user concerns and feedback.

The Rabbit R1, priced at $199, uses its proprietary Large Action Model (LAM) and has been praised for its responsiveness and the breadth of its functionalities.

Nevertheless, some reviewers have underscored certain limitations, such as its dependency on cloud-based services and restrictions on accessing some features. More on that below.

Early adopters have taken to the internet to express their outrage and disappointment with the device. A post on the Rabbit R1 subreddit titled “This thing is such a piece of crap” sums up the general sentiment nicely.

Users are reporting a laundry list of issues, from slow performance to subpar build quality

“I was expecting a premium device given the price, but this thing feels cheap as hell,” wrote one user. “The plastic is flimsy, the screen is meh…it just doesn’t feel solid in the hand at all.”

Others have noted issues with the software, citing bugs, instability, and a general lack of polish. For an Android-based device, this is inexcusable.

“I’ve had apps force close constantly, and sometimes the touchscreen just stops responding,” said another user. “It’s like they rushed this to market without even beta testing it.”

The R1’s battery life has also been called into question. The company promised all-day usage, but many users are finding the battery drains quickly. “I barely get 4 hours of moderate use,” wrote one frustrated owner. And the charging is painfully slow. This thing is less portable than my laptop.”

In response to the backlash, the company issued an OTA software update to address some of the community’s concerns. However, many users feel this is too little and too late.

“I’ve submitted support tickets and gotten nothing but radio silence,” said one user. “It feels like they’ve just moved on to the next product and don’t care about the people who shelled out money for this thing.”

The lack of communication and failure to address issues in a timely manner have eroded trust in the brand, so much so that many are canceling their preorders.

Threads on the Rabbit R1 subreddit titled “Ready for the trash” have garnered numerous responses, with users citing the negative reviews and lack of meaningful communication from the manufacturer as reasons for their decision.

This level of pre-order cancellation is a stark indictment of how poorly the launch has been handled. It’s clear that the manufacturer has failed to meet expectations and that trust in the product and company has been severely damaged.

The Rabbit R1 is a masterclass in how not to launch a product. In their haste to get this thing on shelves, the manufacturer clearly neglected to do even the most basic quality assurance. Now they’re paying the price, with a reputation in tatters and users fleeing in droves.

But of course, there’s always that one person that’s like:

“To the R1 naysayers, Sorry you are disappointed with R1, but ya’ll are the same techies that watched the same video I did when Jesse first introduced it to the world, one user writes.” “And everyone who watched or read anything about it knew it is still in the development stage but ordered it anyway, knowing that it would take awhile to work the “bugs” out. I don’t find a lot of your criticisms valid. The more you cancel your orders, the sooner I’ll be getting my R1!”

I personally wouldn’t be surprised if this was written by someone who works for the company. But the follow-up response is as classic Reddit as you’ll ever get: “I was you a week ago then I got my r1….”

If they want to salvage anything from this dumpster fire, they need to take a hard look in the mirror and rethink their entire approach. In the cutthroat world of portable computing, you can’t afford to halfass it.

To anyone still eyeing the R1, let this be a warning: don’t fall for the marketing fluff. Dig deep, read the reviews, and talk to people who actually use the thing.

Specs are meaningless if the device is a joyless slog to use. You deserve better than some clunky, buggy brick draining your bank account and your patience.

The Rabbit R1 is a stark reminder that at the end of the day, it’s all about delivering on your promises. And on that front, this thing is an epic fail.

The company has a hell of a hill to climb if they want to win back the trust they’ve so spectacularly squandered. We’ll be watching, but for now, there are far better ways to spend your hard-earned cash.

The best wireless printers (2024) https://knowtechie.com/best-wireless-printer/ https://knowtechie.com/best-wireless-printer/#respond Thu, 02 May 2024 19:06:46 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=379076 Printers are just as necessary as they are frustrating. If you’ve ever owned a printer or worked in an office with an industrial printer, you are familiar with the pain of printing something out. Yet, it must be done.

At least we don’t have to fax anything anymore (mostly). And we don’t even have to keep our printer in close proximity to our devices because many of them work over Wi-Fi now, negating direct USB contact.

And there is no shortage of printer brands and styles on the market. From massive beasts intended for home office use to quick-print inkjet printers and photograph-centric printers, wireless printers offer tons of options.

And the best wireless printers, well, it turns out that’s quite subjective because no matter how hard you try, no one loves their printer.

05/02/2024 06:23 pm GMT

Find the best wireless printer for you

While there are some differences between laser and inkjet printing, it really comes down to your needs. Laser printers are great for work and high-volume printing, while inkjet printers are more affordable and better for photo printing.

But, there are printers specifically intended for photos, while others are clearly built to function in a home office.

Plus, cost is always a consideration, again, based on need. If you need to print tons of documents on a daily basis, you’ll want a larger, high-volume printer. If you just print photos and art, stick with a printer designed for that function.

No matter what, the best wireless printer is the one that prints your stuff almost as soon as you tap print.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One (Best Overall)

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One is the culmination of years of dealing with printers. HP is one of the most well-known and popular printer brands, and it doesn’t tend to disappoint.

That’s because there’s always something with wireless printers. Either connectivity issues or some other weird Wi-Fi thing. But this one is alright because it’s not super cheap and has a touchscreen.

When setting up a printer, that touchscreen helps. You can actually see the things you are selecting, and it’s not a bunch of guesswork.

Aside from Wi-Fi, if you need to, you can plug this printer directly into a computer with USB and hook it up to your ethernet.

The extra ports and its full range of printer-specific abilities (fax, scan, etc.) make the HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One the best overall printer out there.

Brother MFC-J1205W (Best Value)

White multifunction printer on purple background
Image: KnowTechie

The Brother MFC-J1205W is a very basic, very simple printer. This is what you think of when you think of wireless printers, even though it does offer USB connectivity as well.

You set it up through an app, and the physical buttons are limited. It does offer one year of ink in the box, but that’s probably based on some printing average that you exceed anyway.

The app shows you how much ink is left so you know when to replace it. It’s not that great with photos, even though it’s an inkjet. But it does ok. Better than a laser printer in general.

If you don’t print a ton of photos, and you want to save a bit on a printer without sacrificing its general overall quality, the Brother MFC-J1205W is a value purchase.

HP DeskJet 2755e (Best Budget)

Image: KnowTechie

The HP DeskJet 2755e isn’t the best printer in the world, not by a long shot. So why’s it on this list? Cause it prints, and it’s super cheap.

It’s a very basic printer that doesn’t handle much outside regular print paper. It can print on other things, but from personal experience, it’s not that great on things like photo paper. However, it handles graphic design images on sticker paper quite well.

It requires the HP app to be properly set up to ensure connectivity to Wi-Fi. There is a USB 2.0 port, just in case, because we all know wireless can be finicky.

Overall, the HP DeskJet 2755e isn’t the greatest printer in the world, but fits the bill if you are on a budget.

Canon Pixma MG3620 (Best for Mobile Devices)

Image: KnowTechie

While you don’t absolutely have to set up the Canon Pixma MG3620 through its mobile app, it’s much easier than setting it up via PC. Because it’s a mobile-focused printer.

It wants data from your smartphone or tablet. It craves it. Whether that accounts for the middling pages-per-minute (ppm) speed is debatable. There is always some delay when printing via mobile.

Regardless, the mobile functionality totally supports scanning directly from your mobile device. That’s pretty handy and skips a step in scanning. Especially considering the quality of phone cameras these days.

And it connects with Alexa to shout at you when your ink is running low. Since we’re all glued to our mobile devices, the Canon Pixma MG3620 makes sense as a printer.

The Canon Color imageCLASS MF656Cdw is a beast of a printer but nowhere near the size of an industrial office printer. However, if you have a ton of printing to do running a small business or home office, then this is the workhorse you’ll want.

It’s a well-reviewed printer that accentuates speed and high-capacity printing and toner storage. Plus, with the print-on-the-go connectivity to Canon’s PRINT Business app, Apple AirPrint, and Mopria Print Service, there is some mobile prioritization.

The touchscreen makes setting up the printer easier, but you are going to want to use the app for complicated connectivity through third-party printing services.

With only one MAC address, the Epson WorkForce WF-7210 will only work on Wi-Fi OR wired. So, pick one. Since this is the best wireless printer, Wi-Fi is probably what you’re after.

This is a heavy printer, but it holds a lot of paper and, most importantly, prints in wide format. That means your legal documents or anything outside the bounding box in Adobe Photoshop.

The printer does advertise print-shop-quality results, and for the most part, it delivers. If it wasn’t so expensive and specialized as a wide-format printer, it would be close to being the best overall.

As it stands, for wide-format printing, you can’t do better than the Epson WorkForce WF-7210.

Image: KnowTechie

Especially handy for travelers and hybrid workers, the HP OfficeJet 250 All-in-One runs on a quick-charge battery and fits in your backpack. Plus, it uses the common HP62 ink cartridges.

That’s good because there are tons of third-party options that work just fine. The touchscreen helps with setup and printing, and the battery charges super fast.

It does offer borderless printing up to 5×7, which is ok, but let’s be honest: you are going to use it for printing PowerPoint presentations.

Also, it’s a bit expensive for a portable printer, but that’s probably due to jamming full printer functionality into a smaller package. For a portable printer, the HP OfficeJet 250 All-in-One fits the bill, even with that price tag.

And yeah, it connects via Wi-Fi and mobile, but the companion software kind of messes things up. If you can avoid installing it, then do so.

How to pick the best wireless printer

When picking the best wireless printer for your needs, think about what it will be used for. Laser printers are great for volume printing or infrequent printing, while inkjets are great for photos, graphics, and regular use.

We also like the versatility of all-in-one units like the HP OfficeJet or Brother Business Color Laser as they can be used to make copies, fax things when dealing with doctors’ offices or the government, and digitize receipts so you can cut down on paperwork.

And if all you really need is to print out letters or forms every so often, the Brother Monochrome on this list will do that perfectly while staying relatively hassle-free.

Samsung indirectly confirms it’s working on Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-7-ultra/ https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-7-ultra/#respond Thu, 02 May 2024 10:30:11 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=405377 Samsung is gearing up for the next Galaxy Unpacked event, which is apparently set for July 10, a bit earlier than Samsung’s usual schedule. The Korean tech giant is expected to unveil the new Galaxy Z foldable phones, the Galaxy Ring, and the Galaxy Watch 7 series at the event.

This year’s Galaxy Watch 7 lineup will be different from its predecessors. While we are unsure of all the details or even how many smartwatches will be in the lineup, the latest report suggests that at least one premium smartwatch will be in the collection.

Samsung recently announced its financial results and said it is looking to “new premium models” in the smartwatch category in the second half of the year.

Unfortunately, that’s all Samsung has said about the matter. However, the statement could be read as something the company plans to do in the future to boost its sales by introducing new products.

SamMobile sees it as a hint that the previously rumored Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra is indeed in the works.

Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra: The Phantom third model in the series

A collection of watches.

A third Galaxy Watch 7 model has been rumored for a while, but no concrete details have emerged to calm the matter.

Even before this evidence came to light, Android Headlines spotted a firmware build for a smartwatch model that the outlet believed to be the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra.

Although, some speculate it is the Galaxy Watch 7 Pro.

Either way, the Galaxy Watch 7 will likely consist of three models: the Watch 7, the Watch 7 Classic, and the Watch 7 Ultra.

However, this is all just speculation and rumors. For the official confirmation, we need to wait until June 10, when Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, the Galaxy Ring, and more.

Apple Pencil 3 may get haptic feedback and new gestures https://knowtechie.com/apple-pencil-3-haptic-feedback/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-pencil-3-haptic-feedback/#respond Tue, 30 Apr 2024 13:08:50 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=402913 Apple announced the “Let Loose” event a few days ago to officially unveil its next-generation iPad models after keeping quiet all throughout 2023.

At the event, the Cupertino firm is expected to announce the new iPad Pro models, which will sport state-of-the-art OLED panels and Apple’s M3 silicon (although a recent report claims it will be M4), and the new iPad Air 6, including a larger 12.9-inch variant.

However, the new iPads won’t be the event’s only attraction. Apple is also announcing the third-generation Apple Pencil, the Apple Pencil 3, with new features.

According to the latest edition of the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, Apple Pencil 3 could get haptic feedback. However, the report doesn’t mention how it would be used.

The pencil could deliver different feedback depending on the mode, like a digital paintbrush, pen, crayon, etc. But this is all speculation.

Apple Pencil 2
Image: KnowTechie

On the other hand, Apple Pencil 3 could get a new squeeze detection mechanism based on the references found in the iPadOS 17.5 beta.

In addition, Apple is rumored to bring Find My support to the upcoming Apple Pencil, making it easier to locate.

Of course, if all these speculations become real, Apple Pencil 3 will stand out among its third-party alternatives.

It could inspire rivals like Samsung to add more features to its S Pen Pro. The S Pen Pro already supports the SmartThings app, but neither haptic feedback nor pressure gestures.

There’s also the case with Magic Keyboard

Image: KnowTechie

Let’s not forget the last rumored item for the event: a new Magic Keyboard for the next-gen iPad models.

The Magic Keyboard is Apple’s premium tablet accessory; according to rumors, it may get a facelift. But no other details are available outside of using an aluminum base and adding a larger trackpad.

The new iPad Pro, iPad Air 6, Apple Pencil 3, and the new Magic Keyboard will be unveiled next week on May 7, followed by the WWDC 2024 on June 10, where Apple will likely announce the next iPadOS update.

The best electric shavers (2024) https://knowtechie.com/best-electric-shaver-razor/ https://knowtechie.com/best-electric-shaver-razor/#respond Mon, 29 Apr 2024 20:11:45 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=379068 Following the discovery of fire, it soon became necessary to remove our erroneous body hair, as we no longer required it to stay warm. Whether it’s beards, legs, genitals, heads, arms, that little bit in-between eyebrows, or armpits, we shave it all.

Some people shave their beards into creative masterpieces, while some ensure nary a hair shall grace their legs. And as with the advancement of time and technology, we can do it all with electric shavers.

Sure, the standard straight razor still has its place, and many of us prefer it over electric. But electric razors are quick and convenient, less messy, and built to last.

Some claim to provide a razor-close shave, while others work in the shower. Regardless of specific features, all of them will remove hair from your body, which is the end goal after all.

So, the best electric shavers are the ones that satisfy your hairless needs while remaining functional and effective.

04/29/2024 07:38 pm GMT

Find the best electric shaver for you

Choosing the best electric shaver often comes down to cost and features, such as waterproofing. However, some shavers are intended for other areas besides the face, so that’s a consideration as well.

Do you need one mostly for your legs or private areas? Then, an intimate shaver is probably best. Do you need a workhorse for daily shaves? Then, a more powerful razor is probably better.

Or do you just need one for travel? Then, go with a portable electric razor. Regardless, the best electric shaver is the one that fits within your budget and keeps you smooth and clean.

Philips Norelco Shaver 9800 (Best Overall)

Philips Norelco Shaver 9800
Image: KnowTechie

So the Philips Norelco Shaver 9800 has some sort of AI built-in, but really, it’s a smart hair sensor that reads hair density and auto-adapts as you shave. That’s not exactly AI, but it’s marketing, so it checks out.

What this razor does have is self-sharpening blades that make 150,000 cutting actions per minute. So you spend less time shaving and more time not shaving.

The shaver is also capable of wet shaves, but it doesn’t really have much of a shower grip, just rubber on the sides. Ok, that’s technically a grip, but the entire front is smooth metal, so it could fall out of your hands.

Regardless, you really can’t go wrong with the Philips Norelco Shaver 9800, a long-time brand-building reliable razor.

Philips Norelco Shaver 3900 (Best Value)

Philips Norelco Shaver 3900
Image: KnowTechie

The Philips Norelco Shaver 3900 is a bit better of a wet-use razor than the 9800 because it has a rubber grip under the blades. Aside from that, it’s a bit cheaper and lacks the smart razor functionality.

But if you don’t need all that fancy AI stuff, then it certainly covers the basics. The pivoting head has 27 self-sharpening blades that give you the closest shave possible.

A strange downside of these razors is the battery. While an hour’s battery life on a single charge is great, if it dies mid-shave, you have to wait for the battery to charge a bit.

It won’t work while charging. Most things work while charging. Get with it, Philips Norelco.

Anyway, the Philips Norelco Shaver 3900 is a solid value buy for an electric shaver due to its good battery life and traditional shaving function.

Wahl Waterproof Rechargeable Electric Shaver (Best Budget)

Wahl Waterproof Rechargeable Electric Shaver
Image: KnowTechie

If you’ve ever had your head shaved in a barbershop, it was likely a trimmer like the Wahl Waterproof Rechargeable Electric Shaver.

This is a much more utilitarian shaver at a totally budget price. But it does what it’s supposed to do for the most part, as we do get what we pay for. As far as close and sharp shaves, reviews are mixed. But nothing beats a straight razor anyway.

For the price, you get a 90-minute battery charge for the flexible foil cutters and pivoting head. The non-slip grip is fairly competent, and it has a travel lock so it doesn’t start up while in your luggage. That’s always awkward.

And it’s fairly ergonomic, which makes sense because Wahl is a barbershop brand. The Wahl Waterproof Rechargeable Electric Shaver might be a budget buy, but it’ll last you a while and do the job.

This is a durable cordless shaver built with German ingenuity and titanium coating. It’s 100% waterproof and has about a 60-minute runtime on a single charge.

Gillette Venus Intimate (Best for Bikini Bits)

Gillette Venus Intimate shaver
Image: KnowTechie

The Gillette Venus Intimate is designed specifically for your bits and nibbles. It’s not that strong, and it only uses a single AA battery.

But if you’ve ever put an electric anything near your genitals, you don’t want something strong anyway. Things can get hurt. This gentle shaver even handles thick hair and is easy to clean.

It’s also waterproof, but you’d think that with a waterproof electric razor being held precariously between your legs in the shower, it’d have a better grip.

Instead, it’s smooth and plastic, so it can get a bit awkward. Are rubber grips that much of a design problem they don’t exist on a razor like this?

Regardless, the Gillette Venus Intimate is one of the best, kindest razors for your trots, rocks, and lady lawns.

Panasonic Close Curves (Best For Legs)

Panasonic Close Curves shaver
Image: KnowTechie

If you really want a smooth shave with the Panasonic Close Curves, then you’ll have to take your time. And it’s better to moisturize first, hold skin taut, and be patient.

Or go fast, and it’ll still shave fairly close. It’s kind of a contradiction, but certainly avoids irritation caused by straight blades. And it comes with a travel pouch and cap.

As for the waterproof aspect, once again, it suffers from not enough rubber gripping on the sides. It’s like these engineers rarely hold smooth things in the shower.

If you’ve got a good grip and can reach all the skin that composes your legs, then it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. But the Panasonic Close Curves is a smooth, compact electric shaver perfectly suited for below-the-waist areas.

MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 5.0 (Best for Balls)

MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 5.0

The MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 5.0 is clearly marketed toward those with meaty clackers, but let’s be honest, it’s an electric shaver.

And it’s not too shabby a shaver with its dual-head trimmer and foil blades. Plus, it has a nice LED light to show what you are doing down under. The 700mAh Li-ion battery holds a charge for about 60 minutes, and it charges via USB-C.

The dual-head system includes a SkinSafe trimmer blade to start, then you swap it with the SkinSafe foil blade for finish. But the downside to this is it’s not a perfect system, and a footnote says it doesn’t guarantee cut protection.

Flappy sack skin is tough to shave, and you’ll want to keep this razor clean a lot. But the MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 5.0 is at least built for the job.

Panasonic ARC5 Electric Razor (Best for Speed)

Panasonic ARC5 Electric Razor

The Panasonic ARC5 Electric Razor is a lightweight but very powerful electric razor. The boss linear motor delivers 14,000 cuts per minute (that’s 70,000 crosscutting actions per minute), and as the battery dies, the power doesn’t.

The active shave sensor technology detects differences in your beard density and adjusts the power flow to compensate. All that power is channeled into five ultra-sharp precision-honed Nanotech blades and ultra-thin Arc Foil.

This is basically the Corvette of modern electric shavers. All power and speed are not really intended for stop-and-go traffic in the city.

How to pick the best electric shaver

Even if you prefer a manual shave, you can appreciate that sometimes there isn’t enough time, and that’s when electric shavers come into their own.

The thing is, while battery life and safety have improved over the years, the basic design is still the same. You can get a great shave from a more affordable shaver or bump up the budget to get more bells and whistles.

The only thing is, if you want to shave your more delicate areas, it’s worth investing in an electric shaver that was designed with that in mind.

The industry has been dominated by the big names for decades, so you can’t really go wrong with anything from Philips, Wahl, Braun, or Gillette. They will all cut your facial hair with the minimum level of fuss.

Use an electric shaver we missed? Prefer the minor danger of a manual razor? Drop us a line in the comments below, or carry the discussion to our Twitter or Facebook.

12.9-inch iPad Air 6 may not get a Mini-LED screen this year https://knowtechie.com/new-ipad-air-6-miniled-display/ https://knowtechie.com/new-ipad-air-6-miniled-display/#respond Fri, 26 Apr 2024 12:55:56 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=397640 As Apple prepares to launch the OLED iPad Pro and iPad Air 6 models on May 7, rumors continue to fly. Although we are only a couple of weeks away from the launch, the iPad Air 6 line is causing quite a stir.

The 12.9-inch iPad Air 6 will be the most anticipated addition to Apple’s tablet lineup. Recently, the new larger iPad Air was rumored to sport a Mini-LED display like the current M2-powered iPad Pro line.

However, the latest Tweet from the renowned display analyst Ross Young leaves more questions than answers.

Well, we no longer believe the upcoming 12.9″ iPad Air will get a MiniLED display. While multiple supply chain sources confirmed it, resulting in my tweet, even more supply chain sources said it wasn’t happening, which makes sense given its still high cost.
However, we have heard that there may be a new 12.9″ MiniLED iPad introduced in Q4’24.

12.9-inch iPad Air 6 with or without a Mini-LED display

In retrospect, the 12.9-inch iPad Air 6 getting a Mini-LED panel rumor was sketchy due to cost concerns. But it made sense if Apple was ready to dump its left-over inventory for the process.

But Young says it isn’t happening. However, there’s a twist as he mentions the possibility of a 12.9-inch Mini-LED iPad for Q4 2024.

So, assuming the new report is accurate, it is currently unclear what Apple intends to do with those panels, and we don’t see any space between the iPad Air and iPad Pro for a new 12.9-inch iPad.

While rumors of a larger entry-level iPad exist, it won’t stand up with a Mini-LED panel.

What happens from here is anybody’s guess, and we won’t likely know anything concrete until the “Let Loose” event.

The iPad Air 6 lineup is rumored to include a refreshed 10.9-inch model and a new 12.9-inch model powered by the M2 chipset.

On the other hand, the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will sport the M3 chipset and new OLED panels.

Major design changes aren’t expected. However, previous rumors have stated that the FaceTime cameras on the new iPads will be moved to the side from the top — making it easier to take video calls in landscape mode.

Lastly, Apple is also rumored to launch a new and improved Magic Keyboard and the new Apple Pencil 3 alongside the new tablets. However, we will have to wait for the May 7 event to know if Apple has anything more in store.

Excited for Apple’s iPad event? Let us know below in the comments, or carry the discussion to our Twitter or Facebook.

The best dry herb vaporizers (2024) https://knowtechie.com/best-dry-herb-vaporizers/ https://knowtechie.com/best-dry-herb-vaporizers/#respond Thu, 25 Apr 2024 17:31:04 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=369261 We’ve come a long way from the days of carving out a Diet Coke can to make a back-alley bong. Alongside the increasing legality and quality of marijuana, the devices we use to utilize it have exponentially improved.

We’re talking portable, rechargeable devices that perfectly heat up our bud, negating the need for lighters, papers, and glass. The best dry herb vaporizers are just some of many available for purchase.

Find the best dry herb vaporizer for you

When it comes to purchasing a dry herb vaporizer, you’ll want to consider a few things. Price is always a consideration, but portability and functionality are as well.

Some dry herb vaporizers are functionally sound, heating up your product extremely fast, but are terribly bulky. Others fit in that little coin pocket in your jeans but don’t hold much flower at one time.

Regardless, there are plenty on this list to choose from, so you’ll have no issue heating up your weed and moving into the 21st century, finally putting those Coke can bongs behind you.

Storz & Bickel’s Venty Vaporizer

Through an accompanying Bluetooth app, you can control many functions of the Storz & Bickel’s Venty Vaporizer including temperature, and haptic feedback.

The double battery (two 18650 lithium-ion batteries) enables longer puffing sessions without a recharge. This is handy when you are on the go, or just don’t want to get up for anything but tater tots.

But these days, weed is much more than a window to further snacking. Medically legal in many states, it’s used for everything from physical injury recovery to controlling and maintaining mental issues.

At the top of this list, the Storz & Bickel’s Venty Vaporizer is a vape with a great capacity in not only form factor but functionality.

Utlillian 621 Vaporizer

Black portable vaporizer on purple background.
Image: KnowTechie

The Utillian 621 is one of several vaporizers available from the Utillian brand. However, this one is the best example.

It’s probably one of the most sturdy vapes on this list, with a magnetic mouthpiece that easily clasps over the heating bin. It’s easy to clean with the included stirring tool, and you can just as easily control the temperature.

The only slight downside is the heating chamber is good for about one to two sessions before a refresh. But really, things get burnt after that point anyway so that’s not so bad.

Conversely, one of the best things about the Utillian 621 is although it seems a bit bulky, it’s actually quite discreet, though there’s not much need for secret business these days.

The two-hour battery life means that you won’t have to recharge while out and about. Plus, while you are out there in the world, you don’t have to worry about smell or spilling with the magnetic oven lid.

However, there is one caveat with the Pax line of vaporizer, something that might matter to some, but it comes with a proprietary charger. While it’s USB on one end, it’s not USB-C on the other, which means you better not lose that cable.

But aside from that, the Pax Plus Vaporizer is one of the best form factors on the market.

While it doesn’t work with concentrates, it does have an oven that should provide you with a few sessions before having to clean and refill. The heating of your flower with the Pax is always smooth and results in as little smoke as possible. It never burns.

It’s nice to have a weed vaporizer that literally fits in the palm of your hand if you still are living that discreet life. This is a vape that fits in your pocket with other things and doesn’t require a lot of complicated maintenance.

If you want nothing more than to get your hit on without a massive unit in your hands, then the Pax Mini Vaporizer is the right choice.

The second is the borosilicate glass bowl and vapor path, which keeps the flavor of your flower consistent and strong. Taste is important after all.

Really, the biggest draw of this vape is its recognizable form factor. It emulates the classic one-hitter that we are all familiar with. Pack a bowl, heat up with a press of the button, and you are really to roll.

Technical specs include an automatic display and controls inversion, USB-C charging, and a high-capacity 18650 battery. That equates to about three hours of use, more if you charge while using, which it certainly allows.

The Arizer Solo II MAX Vaporizer is the vape to choose if you have a glass collection collecting dust.

It’s especially handy for users who want a bit more control over their intake, as a litany of add-ons and precise digital temperature controls allow you to vape your way.

It’s a big vape for sure, and its cone shape certainly makes it stand out on your desk.

A Google smartwatch appears at FCC, likely the Pixel Watch 2a https://knowtechie.com/google-pixel-watch-2a-fcc-certification/ https://knowtechie.com/google-pixel-watch-2a-fcc-certification/#respond Tue, 23 Apr 2024 14:06:20 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=394852 Google is all set to hold its annual Google I/O event in less than a month, and the search engine company is expected to announce the Google Pixel 8A, among other things.

However, a new report has revealed that Google may have something new up its sleeve—a new hardware announcement, maybe?

The folks at the 9to5Google have discovered that a mysterious Google product has popped up at the FCC certification site with the model number G4SKY.

Is a Pixel Watch 2a really in the works?

Wireless device specifications and frequency details.
Image: FCC

An appearance at the FCC site indicates that the product is close to launch.

Now, everything points to the Pixel Watch 3, the only upcoming Google smartwatch we know about.

However, the next Pixel Watch will likely launch alongside the Pixel 9 series in the fall.

In addition, the device lacks features like ultra-wideband (UWB) connectivity and 5G but appears to have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE connectivity. Hence, this is something different.

While it is unclear what the new Google hardware could be, it has the exact instructions for viewing the on-device FCC E-label as the Pixel Watch 2.

To view regulatory information, certification, and compliance marks, go to Settings > System > Regulatory Information.

Either way, the outlet has offered one possibility but also states it is highly unlikely.

The unnamed hardware could be the Pixel Watch 2a, and if the assumption is accurate, we should get more info on it as we approach Google I/O 2024.

Could this be the Pixel Watch 2a? Tell us your thoughts below in the comments, or on our Twitter or Facebook.

Leaked image gives a look at upcoming HomePod with a display https://knowtechie.com/apple-homepod-with-display-leak/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-homepod-with-display-leak/#respond Fri, 19 Apr 2024 13:12:23 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=387303 Apple has long been rumored to develop a HomePod with an LCD touchscreen to shake up the line and attract more customers to its SmartHome products.

While we have already heard a few details and leaked images of this unreleased device, leaker Kosutami is back again on X/Twitter with a new image showcasing a part of the HomePod prototype with a display.

The image shows the top display panel for the upcoming HomePod.

The leaked image corroborates HomePod with a display with a familiar design

The image shared by the leaker Kosutami is an integral part of the new HomePod with a display Apple is developing.

The image shows a large component with curved glass, which looks like the top of the HomePod that covers the entire thing. It matrices the previously leaked HomePod prototype with a curved LCD.

Rumors about Apple developing multiple HomePods with a display prototype have existed for a while, including one resembling the Amazon Echo Show.

However, the leaked image shows part of a less ambitious version with a similar design to the current one and a screen on top that shows quick information about media played in apps such as Apple Music and Apple Podcasts.

Meanwhile, a code found on the tvOS 17.4 corroborated the existence of a different and more advanced HomePod prototype.

Either way, things surrounding the unreleased HomePod with a display are still a bit complicated.

The current second-generation HomePod has a flat touch surface with multiple LEDs to show color combinations.

Hence, a HomePod with a display would be an excellent new addition to Apple’s arsenal. However, a 2024 launch is unlikely, so you may have to wait a long time for it.

12.9-inch iPad Air 6 tipped to get a Mini-LED screen https://knowtechie.com/ipad-air-6-12-9-mini-led/ https://knowtechie.com/ipad-air-6-12-9-mini-led/#respond Fri, 19 Apr 2024 12:51:23 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=387508 Apple is rumored to revamp its entire iPad lineup this year after not releasing a single iPad in 2023. The new iPad Pro models are the starting lineup, and it is rumored that they will get new OLED panels alongside the new M3 chip.

On the other hand, we have the iPad Air 6, which is reportedly set to launch alongside the “Pro” iPad models. Apple was rumored to introduce a new 12.9-inch iPad Air this year, which was excellent news. However, another leak has now revealed a new meaningful upgrade for the 12.9-inch iPad Air.

The display analyst Ross Young has revealed through his subscriber-only post on X/Twitter that the new larger iPad Air 6 will get a Mini-LED display.

The vanilla iPad Air 6 will stick to the same LED panels

ipad air 2020
Image: KnowTechie

While it is a last-minute leak, as Apple is said to launch its new iPad Air 6 and Pro models in May, it is a meaningful upgrade, at least for the larger iPad Air 6.

Young further clarifies that Apple will use leftover Mini-LED panels from the previous iPad Pro models, as the new iPad Pro models are going OLED and don’t need them anymore.

However, the report also confirms that the vanilla iPad Air 6 won’t be getting the same Mini-LED treatment, which was unlikely anyway.

Apple is simply differentiating iPads with different displays, which is an excellent idea.

Either way, equipping the new 12.9-inch iPad Air 6 with the Mini-LED panel is an excellent idea and may help sway customers to go for the larger models, as it will be the newest addition to Apple’s iPad family.

There isn’t any official confirmation regarding the launch, but all things point to an early May launch as we eagerly await the new iPads and can’t hold our excitement.

Meta responds to Apple and Sony’s entry with price cut on Quest 2 https://knowtechie.com/meta-vr-quest-2-price-drop/ https://knowtechie.com/meta-vr-quest-2-price-drop/#respond Fri, 19 Apr 2024 12:41:12 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=387743 In a move that surprised few but pleased many, Meta has slashed the price of its popular VR headset, the Quest 2, for the second time in just four months.

Originally, the 128GB model cost $249. Now, it’s down to $249.And the 256GB? Reduced from $399 to a slightly lighter $349 hit to your wallet.

Seems like Meta is hell-bent on making sure everyone and their grandma gets strapped into the virtual world on the cheap.

So, why the sudden price drop?

Industry insiders suggest this could be a preemptive strike by Meta against other heavyweights like Sony and Apple, who are rumored to enter the VR fray soon.

It seems Meta is gearing up to lock in consumers with an affordable yet high-quality VR solution before the market becomes even more crowded.

The price cuts could also be a response to the lukewarm reception of Meta’s pricey Quest Pro. With sales on the sluggish side, there’s speculation that these cuts might be a tactic to boost overall user adoption by making the entry-level model more appealing.

Despite the speculation, this move places Meta at a competitive advantage, at least in terms of pricing. As Engadget reports, the Quest 2 remains a popular choice among VR enthusiasts, and with these cuts, it’s poised to attract a broader audience.

So, if you’re ready to take the plunge into virtual insanity, why wait? Unless, of course, you’re game for hanging around to see if Apple throws a knockout punch.

The best monitors for under $200 (2024) https://knowtechie.com/best-monitors-for-under-200-dollars/ https://knowtechie.com/best-monitors-for-under-200-dollars/#respond Wed, 17 Apr 2024 12:55:28 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=379103 Whether for gaming, working, or standard entertainment consumption, you’ll want a great monitor. But you might have a budget, most of us do.

We don’t often want to spend too much when we can get a comparable item for much less. Though, some people love to spend too much for what they don’t need, but that’s another story for another day.

Today we’re talking about the best monitors for under $200, and it’s quite a selection. There is no shortage of monitors out there for not only a great price, but packed with all the features you’d expect of any monitor.

Though, the one overall limitation with monitors in this price range is the size, as it’s unrealistic to expect to pull a monitor over 30-inches for under $200.

That being said, here are some great monitors to plug into your PC, console, laptop, or whatever.

04/15/2024 06:05 pm GMT

Find the best monitors for under $200 for you

When choosing the best monitor under $200, you’ll have to decide which features matter most.

Do you prioritize color accuracy, refresh rate, or something simpler like a fully-adjustable stand. Whatever you do decide, be aware that you likely won’t get all of your needs met.

While monitor technology has progressed significantly in recent years, most new features are at the top-end where OLED and QLED panels abound. You’re likely to get some nice-to-have features though, like variable refresh rate or DisplayPort inputs.

It’s also challenging to find a terrible monitor panel, with 1080p (Full HD) resolution being the norm, and color accuracy and depth that’s closer to covering the sRGB standard.

Before choosing a monitor on a budget, decide what’s important to you. You might find that spending slightly more money gets you much closer to filling your needs.

Acer 27″ 180Hz 1080p IPS Gaming Monitor (Best Overall)

render of an Acer Nitro gaming monitor on purple background.
Image: KnowTechie

The Acer 27″ 180Hz 1080p IPS Gaming Monitor might have gaming in the name, but it’s really an all-purpose monitor. It’s a nice 27-inch widescreen with a refresh rate up to 180Hz.

It also supports blue light protection without sacrificing brightness. And unlike many other monitors, it has two HDMI ports and a Display Port. Most monitors only have one of each.

This does make it easier to plug multiple devices into this monitor, such as your PC and console (for after work you slacker).

And with AMD FreeSync Premium, you get no screen tearing or stuttering as the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphic card’s frames.

Overall, the Acer 27″ 180Hz 1080p IPS Gaming Monitor will satisfy all your monitor needs.

SAMSUNG 27″ T35F Series FHD 1080p Monitor (Best Value)

render of a samsung led monitor on a purple background
Image: KnowTechie

The main selling point of the Samsung 27″ T35F Series FHD 1080p Monitor is its IPS panel. This preserves color vividness from any angle; no colors are washed out.

Paired with the 3-sided borderless display, you have a fairly gapless view for your less-than-ergonomic sitting position. Sit straight. It’s going to hurt later.

The refresh rate is on the low side at 75Hz, so this monitor could be better for gaming but with its game settings and game mode, it does just fine. Don’t bother with graphic intensive games though.

This monitor also comes with AMD Radeon FreeSync to reduce image tearing. So everything looks nice and smooth.

The Samsung 27″ T35F Series FHD 1080p Monitor may not be the best gaming monitor, but it offers a great picture with fewer borders.

LG 24MP60G-B 24″ Full HD IPS Monitor (Best Budget)

render of an lg monitor on a purple background
Image: KnowTechie

The LG 24MP60G-B 24″ Full HD IPS Monitor is not a bad monitor, not in the least. It’s just a few inches smaller than most in its class.

It suffers from the main physical issue, as other budget monitors do, the questionable stand. It works and holds the monitor up, but it is a bit wobbly if not positioned perfectly.

Unlike some monitors, it has an AUX out for headphones and a DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA port. Who is still using VGA? Regardless, it has standard VESA mounting holes, so you can get around that flimsy stand issue.

The IPS panel delivers a crisp viewing experience, and the virtually borderless design gives you as much picture as possible. The LG 24MP60G-B 24″ Full HD IPS Monitor is under $100, so that’s certainly budget.

There isn’t a massive selection of curved monitors in this price range but the AOC C24G1A 24″ Curved Frameless Gaming Monitor does just fine.

The color is a bit washed out, and it’s not the greatest monitor out there, but it does have a nice 165Hz refresh rate, so it can at least keep up with most games. It’s only FHD at this size, but that’s not too much different from QHD really.

It’s a fully adjustable monitor, in case you don’t have a VESA mount. Tilt, swivel, and height are all adjustable. Better gaming monitors are out there, but this is about saving money.

The ASUS VG248QG 24″ G-SYNC Gaming Monitor stands out in the under $200 class because of its focus on gamer fatigue. If you aren’t familiar with it, then you don’t game enough.

The Sceptre New 24.5-inch Gaming Monitor is a PC monitor. Yes, we can plug consoles into monitors, but with such a high refresh rate, it might not work well with some consoles stuck around 120Hz.

But if you are gaming on a PC, then that 240Hz refresh rate is totally awesome, especially for high-paced action games. Other than that, the color is solid and secure with AMD FreeSync keeping the screen tears to a minimum.

LG FHD 27-Inch Computer Monitor (Best for the Office)

render of a 27-inch LG monitor on a purple background

Like most monitors in its class, the LG FHD 27-inch Computer Monitor is billed as a gaming monitor. But let’s be honest, it’s really not.

The refresh rate is mid at 75Hz, and it’s lacking some of the brightness you’d expect with a true gaming monitor. Instead, let’s think of this one as best for work, because it is.

This monitor offers a blue light reduction mode and Flicker Safe, which reduces onscreen flicker. Office workers stare at screens all day like gamers, so eye protection is important.

Additionally, Dynamic Action Sync reduces input lag to keep those macros on time and on point. The LG FHD 27-Inch Computer Monitor proves that not every monitor needs to be a gaming monitor to be good.

OnePlus Pad 2 could be a more premium offering than the first https://knowtechie.com/oneplus-pad-2-premium-tablet/ https://knowtechie.com/oneplus-pad-2-premium-tablet/#respond Wed, 17 Apr 2024 11:34:57 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=382822 OnePlus’s first tablet, the OnePlus Pad, took the world by surprise with its stunning design, great hardware, and a price to die for.

It was surely an excellent addition to the small cesspool Android tablet space, and it was clear that OnePlus was setting its sights on demolishing Samsung’s dominance.

All things point to OnePlus just starting, and if the latest rumor has any gravity to it, we may soon witness OnePlus’s second tablet, likely to be named the OnePlus Pad 2.

Tech journalist Max Jambor previously hinted that we might see the OnePlus Pad 2 in the second half of 2024, and now, his most recent X/Twitter post hints at OnePlus’s Pad 2 sporting Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

OnePlus Pad 2 could be the first premium tablet from the company

Jambor is a known tipster, and many of his predictions have been proven to be accurate in the past.

So, if this leak has any weight, OnePlus is gunning for the premium tablet spot. Otherwise, using a flagship Qualcomm chipset would be meaningless.

Currently, Samsung’s top-tier 2024 Android smartphone, the Galaxy S24 series, uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, although it’s an overclocked variant with the moniker “for Galaxy.” However, it only makes a slight difference in performance.

On the other hand, Samsung’s next Galaxy Tab S10 is expected to sport the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and OnePlus is likely targeting to topple its market with the OnePlus Pad 2.

The original OnePlus Pad had the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 powering the tablet, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is leaps and bounds ahead of it. This could be a stepping stone for more exciting upgrades like a brighter, high-refresh-rate AMOLED panel.

These potential upgrades also mean a higher price tag for the OnePlus Pad 2. However, OnePlus could still keep its price tag slightly lower than Samsung’s to attract more potential customers.

Either way, Jambor revealed the OnePlus Pad 2 is coming in the second half of 2024, probably hot on the heels of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10, which may be announced at the July Unpacked event, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Watch 7.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 spotted on the Bluetooth SIG database https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-7-bluetooth-sig/ https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-7-bluetooth-sig/#respond Mon, 15 Apr 2024 12:01:50 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=380447 Samsung is all but officially confirmed to launch the Galaxy Watch 7 series at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, which is rumored to be in early July. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Ring are also expected to join.

Recent leaks have revealed Samsung’s big plans for its next smartwatch series, indicating a third variant with a significantly larger battery.

However, the folks at SamMobile recently spotted a new Samsung wearable with the model number SM-L305U listed in the Bluetooth SIG database.

After some digging, the outlet revealed that this model represents a 40mm version of the Galaxy Watch 7 with LTE connectivity, designated for the US market.

Samsung electronics certification details for smart wearable product.

The listing also reveals that the Galaxy Watch 7 utilizes Bluetooth 5.3 with LTE connectivity, similar to the Galaxy Watch 6 series

While the rest of the details are still under wraps, a few previous leaks have revealed a couple of potential upgrades for Samsung’s next smartwatch.

According to previous reports, the Galaxy Watch 7 will be the first Samsung wearable to sport a 3nm processor, which will project a whopping 50% increase in power efficiency over the current Exynos W930 chip.

The newly boosted efficiency, paired with the same battery capacity as the Galaxy Watch 6, could translate to a significantly longer battery life for the Watch 7.

Besides the efficiency gain, Samsung is also rumored to increase its internal storage from 16GB to 32 GB.

Unfortunately, this pretty much sums up the Galaxy Watch 7 rumors. The new Samsung smartwatch is expected to launch soon. So, we are likely to get more details in the coming weeks.

The best TV accessories (2024) https://knowtechie.com/best-tv-accessories/ https://knowtechie.com/best-tv-accessories/#respond Mon, 15 Apr 2024 09:56:24 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=376310 Televisions aren’t really that expensive anymore. There is some relatively when it comes to the latest and greatest, but for the most part, you can get a nice-sized TV set for a fraction of what they used to cost.

That’s a good thing!

The picture quality really hasn’t decreased much, they are just cheaper to produce. But this isn’t an economics lesson, it’s a list of the best TV accessories.

See, that’s the thing. With the reduced cost of modern television sets, it frees up more of the budget for accessories. Things like speakers, tuners, fancy remotes, and even TV chairs.

Of course, not everything on this list is a luxury purchase. Most of these items are utilitarian, functional accessories that enhance your content consumption.

Find the best TV accessories for you

Choosing the best TV accessories is often down to personal choice. While some people may prefer immersive lighting while they’re watching their favorite TV shows or playing console games, others may find a universal remote more useful.

Before deciding on what TV accessories are right for you, you should consider what you’re trying to achieve. Do you want an all-singing, all-dancing home entertainment setup? Do you simply want something functional that’s easy and convenient to use?

Whatever TV accessories you decide to invest in, you’ll need to ensure that they work and are compatible with your TV. This might sound obvious, but it’s amazing how quickly you can get caught up in looking for the best TV accessories.

N NOROCME Cable Management Kit (Best Overall)

Assorted cable management accessories on purple background.

In a list of the best TV accessories, the N NOROCME Cable Management Kit is the clear winner for two reasons.

First, something had to be the overall pick without bias to the other items. And most of whatever is hooked up to your TV has a cable or two. Whether it be power cords, random USB cords, HDMI, or speaker wires, you’ll want to keep it organized.

Because if you don’t, your mom or significant other will walk into the room and that’ll be their first comment. What a mess it is behind and around the TV. Because it is a mess. Don’t lie to yourself.

There are cables and wires hanging everywhere. You’ve tried to stuff them behind the TV, but that just doesn’t hold. So get yourself the N NOROCME Cable Management Kit and clean that mess up.

Philips Universal Remote (Best Remote Control)

Philips black remote control on purple background.
Image: KnowTechie

A full-on universal remote is a callback to a previous era of home entertainment, but it still has its usefulness. For instance, unlike a Roku remote that only controls the Roku and TV, a universal remote can handle three or more devices.

So it’ll at least turn on your DVD player, soundbar, cable receiver, stereo amp, and so on.

It’s pre-programmed for Samsung and Roku streaming media boxes but also works with many other brands such as LG, Sony, Hisense, and so on. There’ll be a little book with the programming codes to hook it up to different devices.

And having one single remote is a lot better than controlling all your stuff with a litany of random remotes. So yeah, the Philips Universal Remote saw a problem and solved it.

Tablo 4th Gen 2-Tuner (Best TV Tuner)

Tablo device with power and ethernet cables on purple.
Image: KnowTechie

When you feel overwhelmed by all the streaming services, and all the content, just remember that the Tablo 4th Gen 2-Tuner will make it all better.

It doesn’t even offer access to apps like Netflix and Hulu, and instead connects with your existing antenna (or you can purchase one with the tuner) and presents all the live TV, news, and sports you can handle.

So excluding all the re-runs in syndication, it’s very much like TV used to be. It even comes with a built-in DVR that holds up to about 50 hours of recorded material.

It’s really a device meant for boomers who don’t need all that content, and just want the local news and sports. But boomers still watch TV, so the Tablo 4th Gen 2-Tuner is certainly a handy TV accessory for many folk.

Roku Streaming Stick (Best Streaming Stick)

There is no more popular streaming stick than the Roku streaming stick. And if you have a TV then you’ll probably want a streaming stick.

And if you give your TV a streaming stick, it’ll probably want to endlessly deliver content to your face. And if you deliver content to your face, you’ll probably need some snacks. And that’s as far as the allegory goes.

It supports 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision content, is voice-controlled, and offers free live TV channels. The stick works with Alexa, but only through an Alexa device. And you can use the remote to control your TV as well, but not much else.

Basically, if you subscribe to all that content, you’ll need the Roku Streaming Stick to access it on your TV.

APC is one of the most trusted brand names in power protection creating best-in-class protection for your devices. Because power surges. Lightning strikes. Spikes happen. Especially if your power grid is already on thin ice.

So what these things do is collect and disperse that extra electricity before it gets to your devices like your TV, game consoles, and stereo equipment. That saves you money right there.

Protecting your TV and its electronic buddies on the shelf should be a TV accessory priority, which is why the APC Surge Protector is on this list.

Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar (Best Soundbar)

Black soundbar and speakers on purple background.
Image: KnowTechie

The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar delivers awesome mid-channel audio, which means you’ll be able to hear all the dialogue in that loud program you are watching.

It also does well to spread the sound around with its six transducers, and two custom-engineered upward-firing dipole speakers. If you have a ceiling, this will create a very theatrical surround sound-type experience.

The only downside to a Bose speaker is the cost, but considering the quality of the brand, that checks out. It might require the Bose app to work with some brands of TV, at least wireless.

You can also purchase a Bose bass module and actual surround sound speakers if you want to round out the set. But for what it is, the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar is a well-heard TV accessory.

MCombo Swivel Recliner (Best TV Chair)

Brown recliner chair with ottoman on purple background.

There are plenty of chairs out there but the MCombo Swivel Recliner covers a few bases.

It’s affordable, has massage and vibration settings, swivels all the way around, comes with a footrest, and reclines up to 140 degrees.

It might not be a tech-focused TV accessory, but you kind of need a chair to sit down and consume content so it counts.

It’s a small thing, but having a pocket on the side of the chair is kind of nice. There are no charging ports like some bigger recliners, but at least you can store your phone close by so you can stare at it while watching TV.

The MCombo Swivel Recliner is a great TV accessory for tired feet.

LcFun Waterproof Lighter

The LcFun Waterproof Lighter is for those times when starting a fire is not such a simple task.

In true survival fashion, you need to make a fire to keep warm, but the wind is howling and raining a bit. It’s a good thing this lighter is windproof and waterproof, creating an electrical charge to start a fire instead of a flame.

Plus, you can keep it charged with your portable battery to start all the fires you want. While starting a fire is not a normal thing to do during a disaster, the LcFun Waterproof Lighter only takes up a little space in your go-bag, so it’s better to be prepared.

How to pick your survival tech stash

Aside from these tech-focused items, you will also need some standard items in your emergency kit.

Be sure to grab a nice first aid kit, a comprehensive survival kit (like with multi-tools, paracord, fire starters, emergency blankets, and other survival items), a few cases of water, and toilet paper.

Cans of beans are fine, as is peanut butter, but those things take up a lot of space in a go-bag. Instead, try dehydrated meal kits or MREs.

Regardless, keeping the best survival tech on hand during a natural disaster can be the difference between life and death.

Nothing Ear and Ear (a) leak reveals all; launch on April 18 https://knowtechie.com/nothing-ear-ear-a-leak/ https://knowtechie.com/nothing-ear-ear-a-leak/#respond Wed, 10 Apr 2024 11:23:40 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=378349 After launching its first budget Android smartphone, the Nothing Phone (2a), young tech company Nothing has announced two new pairs of wireless earbuds: Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a).

However, this time, the company is abandoning its exciting numeral naming strategy and taking a different approach, which is interesting.

Regardless, leaks and rumors about Nothing’s unreleased wireless earbuds have been flying out for the past few days. Valuable renders, colors, and pricing have already been leaked, providing greater insight into the upcoming audio devices.

However, the new Android Headlines report reveals almost every other missing information about Nothing Ear and Ear (a).

According to the outlet, the Nothing Ear will be the pricey variant, offering features like dual-point connectivity and active noise cancelation (ANC).

The wireless earbuds offer up to 7.5 hours of juice while ANC is disabled and 33 hours of playback through the charging case.

They are also said to offer 10 hours of usage via a 10-minute charge of the case.

Image: Android Headlines

Meanwhile, the cheaper variant, Ear (a), will reportedly offer the same features. However, it will reportedly provide 8 hours of playback with ANC off and 38 hours with the charging case – it’s bizarre that the cheaper variant would offer a greater playback time with the same features.

Adding to the bizarreness, the outlet has revealed that the Ear (a) will have an IP54 and IP55 rating for the case, while the Nothing Ear is said to offer an IP52 rating for the buds and an IPX2 rating for the case.

At this point, we are guessing the rating has been switched. Otherwise, the cheaper buds have a better IP rating, which is strange.

Nothing is sticking to the same color scheme for its new wireless earbuds- mostly.

The Nothing Ear is expected to come in the usual black-and-white colorways, as is the Ear (a).

However, Ear (a) is getting a never-before-seen vibrant Yellow color option. The yellow color scheme somehow indicates a more eco-friendly design.

Either way, if you are a sucker for vibrant colors, the yellow option might be up your alley.

Nothing has officially announced the April 18 launch for Nothing Ear and Ear (a) via its official X/Twitter account.

The price, on the other hand, was leaked by Android Headlines. According to the outlet, the Nothing Ear will be the company’s premium transparent offering, priced at €150 ($163).

Meanwhile, the Nothing Ear (a) will be the chaper one, priced at €100 ($109).

Quick Verdict: The Baseus Blade 2 is a stylish, thin power bank that's more useful for phone or tablet users, and not the laptop users it is aimed at.
Pros:
  • Fabulous design
  • Cool display with useful information
  • Slim enough to fit in your laptop sleeve
  • Two ports with multi-charge capability
  • Features 12,000mAh capacity
Cons:
  • A bit expensive for capacity and output
  • The 12,000mAh isn't enough for loads of laptops

The Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin Laptop Power Bank carves out its niche with a sleek design and practical functionality in a market flooded with portable power solutions.

This isn’t a battery for your whole home, or even for multiple devices for multiple charges, but it’s a good way to keep things topped up away from a socket.

Tailored for the modern professional and tech enthusiast, this power bank promises to keep your devices charged without the bulk commonly associated with external batteries.

Inside the Box

Baseus Blade 2 Box
Image: Gabriela Vatu / KnowTechie

Unboxing the Baseus Blade 2 reveals a minimalist approach. Alongside the power bank, users will find a USB-C cable but no wall plug.

Like most tech companies, the company assumes you have a charging brick already. But more on that later.

Specs and Design

The Baseus Blade 2 stands out with its ultra-thin profile, measuring 6.4 inches by 5.2 inches by 0.4 inches and weighing in at a modest 11.6 ounces. This slim design does not compromise on functionality.

That’s its main selling point – fitting the power bank into the same sleeve as your laptop. Since the Baseus Blade 2 is about as slim as a smartphone and just about as tall, you won’t have any issues fitting this one right next to your laptop or bag.

The Blade 2 boasts two USB-C ports and a built-in status display with real-time charging information. The device’s aluminum body and matte finish provide style, durability and resistance to everyday wear and tear.

The Baseus Blade 2’s simple, backlit LED display shows basic information, such as the battery percentage remaining, charging speed, and charging time. That’s everything you need to know about your charging.

You can install an app to switch out the wallpaper and a few other details, but that’s not essential in any way.

The device is available in three color options – blue, silver, and orange.

Performance

Baseus Blade 2 charing laptop
Image: Gabriela Vatu / KnowTechie

As tested, the Baseus Blade 2 demonstrates commendable performance, particularly with smaller devices. Its 12,000mAh capacity and 65W output make it suitable for charging smartphones and tablets efficiently.

The “problem” is that this one’s marketed as a laptop power bank. With only 12,000mAh available, you’ll barely be able to get a full charge on most laptops. I use an HP ProBook 450 G9, which could barely fully charge.

With a 65W output, it’s speedy at charging, great enough to keep you afloat if you’ve forgotten the charger at home. This won’t be enough for power hungry MacBook Pro models, but most ultrabooks will be fine.

Since there are two available ports, you can charge multiple devices simultaneously, such as your tablet and your smartphone, but the charging speed will be limited considerably when both ports are in use.

Things I liked

Baseus Blade 2 on HP laptop
Image: Gabriela Vatu / KnowTechie

There are many things to love about the Blade 2, starting with its size and weight. It’s fantastic to be able to carry an extra laptop charge with you anywhere you go without it occupying a ton of space.

So is the fact that it’s super light, especially when compared with other similarly powerful portable chargers.

The 65W charging speed is good, although I wouldn’t call it great—not when 100W versions are available. Laptops consume a ton of energy when you’re working, and if you plug in the Blade 2, it will have a hard time compensating.

Another cool thing about this portable battery is that it comes with multiple safety protections in place while charging. Baseus claims it has protections against short circuits, over-discharge, temperature spikes, over-charging, and more.

Things I didn’t like

While the Baseus Blade 2 impresses with its design and functionality, its capacity to fully charge larger laptops must be improved in a future iteration. This limitation may deter users seeking a comprehensive charging solution for all their devices.

Additionally, while the slim profile is advantageous for portability, some may prefer a higher-capacity power bank for extended use without frequent recharging.

The first Baseus Blade, for instance, delivered 20,000mAh of energy and a charging speed of up to 100W. It was, however, a bit thicker at 0.7 inches (compared to Blade 2’s 0.4 inches).

The price is pretty much the same for both laptop power banks. While the original Baseus Blade has a recommended retail price of $130, it’s often available for $99.99. And that’s the exact price of the Blade 2.

Since this model has just been launched briefly, the discounts are still slim, so you may have to wait a bit before buying it with a solid discount.

Another peeve with the Blade 2 is that it only comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable and no wall brick. While it’s true that you’ll mainly be using this one by connecting it to your laptop, you’ll still want to charge the power bank.

Even though you could use pass-through charging on your laptop, a dedicated wall charger is often faster.

Also, there’s only one cable included with the power bank, and there are two ports. I know this is something pretty much all companies do, but for $100, couldn’t they throw in an extra cable?

As it happens, my house is full of USB to USB-C cables, but there are very few I could use with the Blade 2 to charge my phone, for instance. While that’s a “me-problem,” I’m sure others are in the same situation.

To buy or not to buy

In conclusion, the Baseus Blade 2 is a stylish, lightweight, and efficient power bank for mobile phones and tablets, with limited but valuable support for laptop charging on the go.

Its sleek design and user-friendly features make it an excellent choice for those prioritizing aesthetics and portability in their charging accessories.

However, the price is steep, considering you can get the original Blade for the same price with a larger capacity and higher output.

The Baseus Blade 2 is a super thin laptop power bank that features two USB-C ports and a display with all the necessary information regarding the charge. With 12,000mAh capacity and 65W power output, it's not the strongest option on the market, especially for this price.

Samsung is working on a Galaxy Watch FE, says report https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-fe-rumor/ https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-fe-rumor/#respond Mon, 08 Apr 2024 10:26:31 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=377783 Samsung has been rumored to be working on the Galaxy Watch 7 series and according to a new report, the Korean company plans to add a Galaxy Watch FE to its smartphone lineup.

The report comes from Android Headlines. The folks from the outlet spotted model numbers in an IMEI database. They concluded that Samsung plans to release a Galaxy Watch FE globally – including in the United States and South Korea.

Unfortunately, not much is known about the Galaxy Watch FE, at the moment, besides its SM-R866 model number.

However, it is speculated that this is the Galaxy Watch 4 refresh revealed in a leak a few months ago.

If the speculation is accurate, expect a similar hardware design centered around the Exynos W920 chipset. Still, this is just a speculation and be sure to take it with a grain of salt.

The Galaxy Watch FE to shake up Samsung’s smartwatch lineup

Image: KnowTechie

The most interesting revelation with the Galaxy Watch FE is what it speaks for Samsung’s Galaxy Watch lineup.

Samsung’s 2024 smartwatch lineup is expected to feature three models of the Galaxy Watch 7.

There will be a standard variant with a sporty design, and a Classic model, and the “Pro” model is making a comeback with a whopping large battery.

Hence, the Galaxy Watch FE will be a fourth model if it joins the lineup, making Samsung’s smartwatch lineup mirroring Apple’s pretty closely.

render of an apple watch se 2nd gen in starlight on a purple background
Image: KnowTechie

Apple currently sells two sizes of the Apple Watch Series 9, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the affordable Apple Watch SE.

The Galaxy Watch FE will undoubtedly compete with the Apple Watch SE, which starts at $250.

So, if the Galaxy Watch FE is indeed real, expect a price tag of $199. However, this is all just speculation.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 7 series in early July alongside its foldable smartphones and the Watch FE could arrive at the same time or later – we are unsure.
