Quick Answer: To cancel your Rabbit R1 preorder, send an email to their support team. We’ll walk you through, with some tips on what to say.

The tech world has been abuzz about AI devices this year, from Humane’s AI Pin to the Rabbit R1. It feels that both devices could have benefited from a little more R&D, as the reviews are anything but glowing.

But if the gloves were off for professional reviewers, that pales compared to the comments from early adopters using their devices. Let’s not forget that the Rabbit R1 is $199, a hefty chunk of anybody’s money.

From connectivity issues to the screen being corrupted with lines (or, in one unlucky user’s case, both), the Rabbit R1 doesn’t live up to its premium price and AI promises.

There’s hope if you preordered this device and haven’t received shipping details yet. You can cancel at any time before shipment, according to Rabbit. And, we really, really recommend you do.

While the Shopify storefront has one email to contact the company, the Redditors who tried that method say they were left waiting. Here’s how to get your money back without resorting to a chargeback.

Email Rabbit’s support team for your money back

According to Rabbit, sending an email to support@rabbit.tech with your order number will get you squared away. Multiple Redditors got their refunds after a few days while using this method.

We recommend staying sweet, simple, and courteously asking for a refund of your preorder, rather than adding some of the issues other users have encountered.

Canceling your preorder is enough of a message to Rabbit that maybe they should have let the device stew a little longer.

This device was all fluff and no substance, with a hastily rushed out physical brick that barely covers a thin slice of what it was promised to do.

Do your bank account a favor and cancel your preorder if you were one of the few that bought into the hype. There are better ways to burn two Benjamins.

Did you preorder the Rabbit R1? Do you have one and like it? Drop us a line below in the comments, or carry the discussion to our Twitter or Facebook.

OpenAI rumored to launch ChatGPT search engine this week https://knowtechie.com/openai-chatgpt-search-engine/ https://knowtechie.com/openai-chatgpt-search-engine/#respond Mon, 06 May 2024 18:59:31 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=410925

UPDATE 5/10/2024: Open AI officially announced an event for Monday, May 13, 2024. Sam Altman teased a demo event on X (formerly Twitter) for Monday, 13, 2024 and claims “it feels like magic.”

ChatGPT is rumored to be rolling out a search engine this week, and truthfully, the timing couldn’t have been any better. More on that later.

Speculations are circulating after a new domain, “search.chatgpt.com,” appeared in the wild, generating enthusiasm and curiosity among AI fans.

Fueling the fire, AI influencer Pete Huang’s cryptic tweet “Search (dot) ChatGPT (dot) com May 9th” has set tongues wagging and fingers typing across Rumorville.

The rumors surrounding the potential ChatGPT search engine product seem to have originated from a post on Y Combinator’s Hacker News community.

Social media post by Pete promoting ChatGPT search.

This post highlighted the creation of a domain name and security certificate for “search.chatgpt.com,” stirring up speculation about what OpenAI might have in store.

Additionally, Huang’s tweet mentioning the same domain added more fuel to the growing rumor mill.

Is this rumor legit?

Short Answer: Probably not. If there’s any truth to it, there is probably a good reason why.

One logical alternative perspective could be that Pete Huang’s tweet about “search.chatgpt.com” may not necessarily indicate the development of a new ChatGPT search engine product.

It could be possible that the domain registration and security certificate are part of routine maintenance or future planning by OpenAI, rather than a direct indication of a new product launch.

Furthermore, speculations based solely on a domain name and a tweet may not always accurately reflect a company’s actual plans or developments.

OpenAI dropping a search engine out of the blue like this is going a ton of folks happy. very happy

But hey, if OpenAI were to drop a search product this week, oof, it would be a direct call to arms for Google.

Remember, this is the same company that made Google rush out two utterly trash chat-like products. They were so bad that Google shut one down and then rolled out Gemini, which was called something else and something else before that.

As for an OpenAI search engine, We’ll keep an ear to the ground, but again, don’t hold your breath.

Baltimore high school rocked by AI voice impersonation scandal https://knowtechie.com/ai-clone-teacher-baltimore/ https://knowtechie.com/ai-clone-teacher-baltimore/#respond Mon, 06 May 2024 14:24:48 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=410727 In what could be straight out of a twisted episode of “Black Mirror,” a Baltimore high school’s saga unfolds with a PE teacher turning techno-villain.

A former gym teacher at a Baltimore high school supposedly created a voice clone of his boss, Principal Eric Eiswert, using newly developed AI voice tools.

His mission? To flood social media with racist and anti-Semitic nonsense, all cleverly disgorged in the principal’s own voice.

Think about that: AI that can mimic your voice to spew hate speech? Yeah, we’re living in that era. What’s even scarier is that dozens of these companies are out there already. Most notably, Eleven Labs.

Why the high-tech backstabbing, you ask? Honestly, who knows the real reason? According to sources, the rogue PE teacher wasn’t too pleased about his fading job prospects and alleged questions about handling of school funds.

The result? Absolute chaos. The voice clone was convincing enough to push Principal Eiswert to a temporary resignation because who wants to stick around when their digitized doppelgänger is a bigot?

Video: WBLAL

Enter the cavalry

Forensic analysts from the FBI and the University of California offered a helping hand and traced the voice shenanigans back to our not-so-innocent teacher. Cue the arrests and a new level of debate about the power and peril of AI.

Baltimore County’s school board calls this ordeal a “deeply concerning frontier” in tech abuse. And honestly? It’s hard to disagree.

This isn’t just about one rogue teacher; it’s a stark reminder of the Pandora’s box we’ve flung open with all the recent AI advances popping up everywhere. So it’s probably safe to say, we’re going to see a lot of this moving forward.

Doesn’t this scare the living pants off you? Let us know what you’re thinking by dropping a comment below.

Google wants you to pay for its AI-infused search engine https://knowtechie.com/google-paid-ai-search-plan/ https://knowtechie.com/google-paid-ai-search-plan/#respond Thu, 04 Apr 2024 15:40:26 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=377184 Would you pay real money to use Google’s search engine? Yea, me neither. Nonetheless, the company behind the popular search engine is mulling the idea of charging users for a service that’s not even close to being finished.

Let’s not forget that the ad copy for Google’s AI search contained misinformation. It’s now a year on from that snafu, and AI hasn’t gotten that much better at separating fact and fiction.

Google’s new plan is to charge for access to search results that utilize generative AI (AI) tools. This revelation comes from a recent Financial Times report, citing “three people with knowledge of [Google’s] plans.”

Google’s decision to charge for such services would be a first for the company, which has historically relied solely on advertising revenue since its inception in 2000.

Google’s AI Search could be great, but it’s not ready for prime-time

Google Bard AI featured image
Image: KnowTechie

The search giant has already started dipping its toes in the paid AI waters, with the “AI Premium” tier of a Google One subscription costing $10 more per month than a standard “Premium” plan.

Similarly, “Gemini Business” adds $20 monthly to a standard Google Workspace subscription.

These subscriptions add Google’s Gemini Ultra AI assistant to the Google tools you’re already using to help you write and summarize reports and many other handy shortcuts.

You don’t necessarily need to pay for a subscription to use Google’s Gemini AI model, but free users only get access to the less-performant versions.

According to the FT report, the proposed plan would keep Google’s standard search (without AI) free of charge, and subscribers to a paid AI search tier would still see ads alongside their AI-powered search results.

Will the standard search experience get more paid search results in an attempt to push users into subscribing? It’s a possibility, and it’s frankly horrifying to think about.

However, the search ads, which brought in a reported $175 billion for Google last year, might not be enough to cover the increased costs of AI-powered search. Who or what will make up the shortfall?

The answer is probably you. Not directly, but Google’s business model has always involved monetizing user data. The real question is, will users put up with this? Or will they simply switch to a competitor offering the same service for free?

Powerful AI tool Actionize connects GPT to everything https://knowtechie.com/actionize-gpt-ai-tool/ https://knowtechie.com/actionize-gpt-ai-tool/#respond Thu, 04 Apr 2024 04:43:27 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=376683 From the creator of notable tools like Chatwith, Spell.so and Gobblebot, indie hacker Rafal Zawadzki is at it once again. Today, we spotlight his latest unveiling — Actionize, a powerful AI tool set to change how your GPT communicates… with everything.

Imagine if your GPT could shoot off emails in Gmail, send newsletters with Mailchimp, and dig out info from Google Sheets. It’s not just talk – with Actionize, it’s a reality and can connect your GPT to pretty much anything.

So, how does it work? Actionize acts like a bridge between your GPT and thousands of apps.

Actionize social media post on purple background
Image: KnowTechie

You craft “actions,” which are essentially commands for your GPT. These actions can range from extracting data from Google Sheets to overseeing your Shopify store. Tools like Zapier or Make.com are instrumental in this process.

Once you’ve established your instructions, the next step is to integrate them with your GPT. Actionize facilitates this crucial meeting point, teaching your AI the ins and outs of each command.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

  1. You start creating actions. Imagine each “action” as an instruction you give to your GPT. It could be anything like “pull data from Google Sheets,” or “manage my Shopify store”. Tools such as Zapier or Make.com come in handy for this.
Actionize create action
Image: KnowTechie
  1. After your instructions are created and set up, you’ll have to tell your GPT how to use these actions. Actionize is the stage where your instructions and AI meet—the integrative step where the GPT learns the what, how, and why of every instruction.
Actionize create an action screen.

  1. After the rendezvous, your GPT understands how to follow every instruction provided. With one click, you have a code snippet that you can copy and paste into your GPT’s interface.

Actionize acts like a bridge between your GPT and your favorite apps. It lets the GPT know how to access these apps without having to get into the messy technical details.

I’ve experimented with Actionize, and despite a hectic schedule managing a tech news site, I found it impressive. There’s potential here, and I can’t wait to dive in whenever time permits.

Actionize GPT

For the early birds, Actionize has an enticing launch promotion: a lifetime deal for just $37. But you’ll need to act fast, as this offer is limited.

At the time of writing, there are only seven spots left. Once it’s they’re gone, the service will transition to a monthly subscription at $29 per month.

So, whatcha waiting for? Beeline for actionize.ai to nab the deal and start your journey into interactive GPTs that can do anything you can dream of.

OpenAI makes ChatGPT’s free version available without login https://knowtechie.com/openai-chatgpt-free-access/ https://knowtechie.com/openai-chatgpt-free-access/#respond Tue, 02 Apr 2024 15:42:42 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=376692 The folks at OpenAI have decided to take ChatGPT’s ease of access up another notch. ChatGPT’s free version has ditched the need for an account and is now available to all users without a login.

OpenAI announced on Monday via its X (previously Twitter) account and company blog that people can now use the chatbot by going to the ChatGPT website. This change is being rolled out globally, but reaching everyone might take some time.

“It’s core to our mission to make tools like ChatGPT broadly available so that people can experience the benefits of AI,” OpenAI said in a blog post.

“More than 100 million people across 185 countries use ChatGPT weekly to learn something new, find creative inspiration, and get answers to their questions. Starting today, you can use ChatGPT instantly, without needing to sign up.”

For those unfamiliar with ChatGPT, we have a handy guide that explains it all: What is ChatGPT and how does it work?

Move over, Google Search; there’s a new competitor for hassle-free surfing

So, what does this mean for you?

Well, it’s now easier than ever to engage with this state-of-the-art language model. Seriously, try it out. You have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips, which will blow you away.

While this policy change might attract users who were previously hesitant to register an account, ChatGPT’s freedom still comes with its safety belt in the form of guided questions.

Although the details behind this decision weren’t disclosed, the news is loud and clear: OpenAI is basically saying, “Come on in, no tickets are required!”

Will other LLM providers follow suit?

This move indisputably breaks down barriers to entry for the curious consumer. There is no sign-up, agreement checkboxes, password anxiety, or privacy invasions—just instant interaction with high-grade AI.

But what does this mean for other larger platforms like Google Gemini and Facebook’s Llama, services that still require an account for similar services?

This could be the push they need to play their no-login card. Who knows, maybe it’s just the spark they need to take the plunge and finally open this to all.

OpenAI is reportedly gearing GPT-5 for a 2024 summer release https://knowtechie.com/openai-chatgpt-gpt-5/ https://knowtechie.com/openai-chatgpt-gpt-5/#respond Wed, 20 Mar 2024 15:02:17 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=371187 OpenAI, the crew that launched the AI chat revolution with ChatGPT, is gearing up to unleash their latest breakthrough: GPT-5. We’re hearing from folks in the know that this release is slated for sometime in the middle of the year, likely around summer.

Some big players in the business world have already had a sneak peek at what GPT-5 can do, and word on the street is they’re impressed.

These insiders, who’ve chatted with Business Insider on the condition of anonymity, say this new version is a game-changer. “It’s really good, like materially better,” remarked one CEO who caught a glimpse of GPT-5 in action.

OpenAI didn’t just show off what it could do; it tailored demos with data specific to its company. And there’s a buzz about even more features that haven’t been shown to the public yet, like AI agents and mini chatbots that could take on tasks all by themselves.

But don’t mark your calendars just yet – OpenAI’s keeping the actual release date under wraps for now, and they’re still putting GPT-5 through its paces.

The final step before we get our hands on it includes many safety tests and a “red teaming” phase. That’s when both OpenAI employees and some chosen outsiders try to poke holes in the system, ensuring it’s solid before it goes live.

While the AI community eagerly awaits further details about GPT-5, it’s clear that the upcoming model will represent a significant step forward in the quest for more advanced, reliable, and versatile AI systems.

Apple’s big iOS 18 AI push could be powered by Google Gemini https://knowtechie.com/apple-google-gemini-ai-iphones/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-google-gemini-ai-iphones/#respond Mon, 18 Mar 2024 09:36:09 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=370454 Apple is reportedly in talks with Google to incorporate its Gemini AI engine into the iPhones.

The AI wars have begun, and every company is now looking to somehow use AI features in their products.

We have seen the Google Pixel 8 series and the Galaxy S24 series incorporate AI features, which gave them an edge over the competitors, and now, it seems Apple intends to join the game.

According to the latest report from Bloomberg, the iPhone maker is currently talking with Google to use the Gemini AI engine on iPhones. The companies are negotiating to let the iPhone company use Gemini to power a few generative AI features coming with iOS 18.

A partnership makes sense as Apple’s own AI model may need more time

The image shows the word "Gemini" with a shining star above it, set against a dark background, flanked by symmetrical wavy lines intersecting in the middle.
Image: KnowTechie.

According to the report, the Cupertino firm plans to discuss the same with OpenAI. However, if Apple’s deal with Google materializes, it would be upon the already-existing agreements to default Google search engine on iPhones.

That said, the companies are yet to decide the terms of the agreement, the branding, and the ways of implementation.

However, there’s still room for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and the company may even for multiple partners.

Apple is already rumored to be working on its own AI models for iOS 18, codenames Ajax. However, Ajax is rumored to be inferior to what Google and other competitors offer.

Hence, a partnership.

According to the Bloomberg report, Apple’s AI model will handle on-device, while its AI partners will tackle cloud-based AI solutions.

Either way, we don’t have enough details at this point to make any assumptions. So, our only choice is to wait for the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2024, slated for June, for the company to reveal all its AI secrets.

OpenAI replaces ChatGPT plugins with more advanced GPTs https://knowtechie.com/openai-chatgpt-plugins-gpts/ https://knowtechie.com/openai-chatgpt-plugins-gpts/#respond Fri, 08 Mar 2024 10:28:38 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=368916 OpenAI is pulling the plug on ChatGPT plugins and replacing them with more advanced and streamlined GPTs.

The company says GPTs will take over plugins on March 19. Existing plugin conversations will only be available until April 9.

If you’re new here, GPTs are Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs). OpenAI confirmed this developmental pivot in a blog post on the company’s website

“Thank you for using ChatGPT plugins. We’ve taken feedback from other users like you and used it to create GPTs. Based on the adoption of GPTs by both users and builders, we’ve decided to wind down the plugin beta”

So why is OpenAI giving plugins the boot?

At first, ChatGPT plugins were like magic tools for AI, allowing it to find data in real-time, make bookings, or search the Internet for information during a conversation.

On the other hand, GPTs are capable of so much more. And the best part? Given the wide adoption rate, anyone can make them, so it’s easy to see why OpenAI is going in this direction.

For developers, moving from plugins to GPTs is like upgrading from a manual tool to a high-tech one, offering more possibilities for developers to be creative and innovative.

This transition opens up new opportunities for both developers and users.

AI is advancing rapidly with Gemini and GPT-4, making interactions more human-like. Better understanding of context, nuanced responses, and reduced biases show a new

Updated: Samsung unveils the Galaxy Ring at MWC 2024 https://knowtechie.com/samsung-to-unveil-the-galaxy-ring-at-the-mwc/ https://knowtechie.com/samsung-to-unveil-the-galaxy-ring-at-the-mwc/#respond Mon, 26 Feb 2024 10:58:11 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=366891

UPDATE 2/26/2024: Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Ring at MWC 2024, with hands-on experience for members of the media.

Samsung officially teased its new wearable, the Galaxy Ring, in January during the Galaxy Unpacked. Now, the company has revealed its plans to show off the Galaxy Ring at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024.

The company confirms via an official post that it will unleash new mobile experiences powered by the Galaxy AI at the MWC 2024 in Barcelona, Spain.

Samsung will be displaying its intelligent health lineup at MWC, offering users even more personalized and seamless health experiences with the transformative power of AI, across even more devices. As part of this portfolio, Galaxy Ring is being unveiled as a new health form factor that simplifies everyday wellness, supporting smarter and healthier living via a more connected digital wellness platform — Samsung Health.

Interestingly, Samsung says in the post that its new wearable will be “publicly displayed for the first time,” likely implying that there will be no hands-on experience.

Samsung Galaxy Ring’s longer battery life and features

According to Android Authority, Samsung claimed a long battery for the Galaxy Ring during a media briefing.

In contrast, the Oura Ring lasts up to seven days. So, we are guessing to get more or less the same endurance figure from Samsung’s wearable.

Samsung also added that it was working to extend its smart ring’s battery life ahead of launch. The company even hinted that it would let users choose between longer battery life and more functionality.

Samsung also told the journalists that its wearable would offer plenty of health-related features, including fertility tracking, in partnership with the Natural Cycles birth control app.

In addition, Samsung clarified that the Galaxy Ring and the Galaxy Watch work together nicely.

We are absolutely developing a capability in such that it’s an integrated capability (sic) but also, you have the option of wearing one versus the other and then have a seamless transition.

Either way, the Galaxy Ring showcase at the MWC will provide more insight into the company’s first smart ring, which is expected to launch in late July alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.

Samsung Galaxy Book 4 launches in the US, UK, France, and Germany https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-book-4-series-announced-us/ https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-book-4-series-announced-us/#respond Fri, 23 Feb 2024 11:14:58 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=366526 Samsung launched its next generation of Windows laptops, the Galaxy Book 4 series, in Korea on January 2 with more or less the same design as its predecessor, but there were significant changes under the hood.

Although a bit late, Samsung’s latest AI-powered, portable Windows laptops are finally arriving in the United States.

Through the official announcement, Samsung has confirmed the availability of the Galaxy Book 4 Pro, Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360, and Galaxy Book 4 Ultra in the region.

The Galaxy Book 4 series gets cross-device capability

In the announcement, Samsung specified that all three laptops are sporting Intel’s Core Ultra chips with integrated NPUs for AI-powered features.

The latest Galaxy Book models sport a 16-inch 3K AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Samsung has also added an anti-reflective coating on the screens.

However, the Pro model also has a 14-inch variant.

In terms of hardware, the top-end Galaxy Book 4 Ultra is getting the Nvidia treatment, with a choice between a GeForce RTX 4050 or RTX 4070 GPU.

Meanwhile, the other two Galaxy Book models sport Intel Arc graphics.

In addition, Samsung has integrated AI power to be used with RTX-optimized Stable Diffusion for image generation.

While all three laptops sport a 76Wh battery, the 14-inch Pro model only gets a 63Wh battery.

Samsung has also injected features like Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, new AKG speakers with AI-powered noise cancellation, microSD card support, and a 2MP webcam.

Moreover, the new Galaxy Books come with cross-device capability, including features like Photo Remaster cross-device video editing and the ability to use your Galaxy tablet as a secondary display.

Galaxy Book 4 series availability and price

iPhone 16’s A18 chip could get a generative AI-focused upgrade https://knowtechie.com/iphone-16-a18-chip-upgrade-generative-ai/ https://knowtechie.com/iphone-16-a18-chip-upgrade-generative-ai/#respond Thu, 15 Feb 2024 10:43:48 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=364171 iOS 18 is rumored to bring a handful of new AI features, which now seems pretty probable as allegedly Apple is preparing iPhone 16 with relevant hardware upgrades to carry these features.

Apple has been offering a Neural Engine in the iPhone since 2017. These chips power all AI-related tasks.

According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily, this particular could take a significant leap with the iPhone 16 series.

Upgraded A18 chipset for iPhone 16 makes sense

According to the repeat, Apple is preparing to boost the number of built-in AI computing cores in the A18 chip and M4 processor.

While the report doesn’t explicitly say it, it is referring to the core inside Apple’s Neural Engine and the A18 chip especially, expected to power the iPhone 16 series, set to launch in 2024.

Apple beefing up its AI silicon for later this year isn’t that surprising. The last iOS 18 leak indicated AI additions, and even CEO Tim Cook hinted at generative AI features for later this year.

An improved AI hardware could help Apple add features like enhanced photo-editing, Siri with boosted power, and more.

Android phones are already offering AI-powered image editing, text/document summarization, live call translations, and more. So, it is likely Apple may also offer all or some of these features with the coming iPhone 16.

Either way, even if Apple’s AI enhancements with the iPhone 16 series aren’t comprehensive, it makes sense for the company to upgrade the hardware for future updates.

ChatGPT unlocks memory powers so you can stop repeating yourself https://knowtechie.com/chatgpt-gains-memory-to-avoid-repeating-yourself/ https://knowtechie.com/chatgpt-gains-memory-to-avoid-repeating-yourself/#respond Wed, 14 Feb 2024 18:56:45 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=363812 OpenAI is breaking new ground by rolling out a “memory” feature for its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, which promises to remember user preferences and past conversations to streamline future interactions.

To enhance the user experience, OpenAI announced it is piloting a new memory feature with a select group of ChatGPT users.

This memory upgrade is no mere facelift; it’s a thoughtful re-envisioning of user interaction. This breakthrough feature eliminates the all-too-familiar repetition of details in each session.

Besides boosting efficiency, these memory enhancements beckon a more tailored conversation, whether you’re a content creator needing specific formatting tips or a coffee shop owner brainstorming social media posts.

How ChatGPT Memory works

A smartphone with the ChatGPT app open lies on a patterned surface next to a pair of glasses, suggesting a work or study scenario.

Users tell ChatGPT crucial details they’d like it to recall, such as coding preferences or personal tidbits, and the bot integrates this information into future discussions.

Over time, the system refines its ability to retain these details, helping it offer personalized suggestions and solutions.

Control remains firmly in users’ hands. Among the personalization tools, one can instruct ChatGPT to remember or forget details, oversee its memory via settings, or deactivate the feature altogether.

Temporary chat sessions also allow for conversations devoid of lasting memory, ensuring private matters stay that way.

How about privacy?

OpenAI is aware of the distinctive balance between personalized experience and user privacy. An ongoing FTC investigation over data use aims to find out if the current darling of the tech world has been mishandling data.

Therefore, implementing memory comes with robust privacy controls; sidestepping data use pitfalls by giving users command over what the chatbot retains.

For example, a user’s favorite dining spots can be remembered for future recommendations, while sensitive information like addresses can be deleted upon request, ensuring user privacy.

Google Bard is getting rebranded to Google Gemini soon https://knowtechie.com/google-bard-rebrand-into-gemini-february-7/ https://knowtechie.com/google-bard-rebrand-into-gemini-february-7/#respond Tue, 06 Feb 2024 12:33:03 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=361910 Google Bard will undergo a massive change in the coming days. It will be rebranded as “Gemini” after the large language model that powers it.

Google has been building up the Bard for the past few months with new features and a generative AI chat experience.

Last year, Google Bard was updated with Gemini, and Google even added an image generator to it recently. However, those were not the biggest changes coming to Bard.

Developer Dylan Roussel spotted an early changelog for Google Bard that points to multiple notable changes coming to Bard on February 7.

Major shake-up coming to Google Bard

The image shows a person holding a smartphone, pointing at colorful paper airplanes, with text overlay mentioning "Bard" and "Mark Rober tests Bard with Gemini Pro."

The changelog states – “Bard is now Gemini.”

The changelog also offers an insight into Google’s decision to rebrand Bard

We’re committed to giving everyone direct access to Google AI and, as of this week, every Gemini user across our supported countries and languages has access to Google’s best family of AI models. To better reflect this commitment, we’ve renamed Bard to Gemini.

However, that isn’t the only notable information the changelog reveals. It says Gemini Advanced, based on the Gemini Ultra 1.0, will be available to try from February 7.

The log also clarifies that it will be a paid plan but will be available across 150 markets. However, Google doesn’t mention the pricing.

Google has also mentioned the Gemini Advanced features, including better coding support, expanded multi-modal capabilities, uploading and more deeply analyzing files, data, and more.

The changelog also states that the Gemini app will be limited to select Android devices only in the US but will be available in Japanese, Korean, and English globally soon.

On the other hand, iOS users will have to access Gemini through the Google app.

The last bit of information states that Gemini Web will be coming to Canada with all supported languages, while the app version will be launched soon in English.

Tim Cook confirms Apple AI is coming soon, likely with iOS 18 https://knowtechie.com/tim-cook-confirms-apple-ai-is-coming-soon/ https://knowtechie.com/tim-cook-confirms-apple-ai-is-coming-soon/#respond Fri, 02 Feb 2024 11:14:35 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=361484 AI is the next big thing. We have already seen Google incorporate AI to create some amazing features on the Pixel 8 series. Recently, Samsung welcomed AI integration with the Galaxy S24’s launch. Interestingly, Apple is missing from the AI race – but not for long

During a recent investor call, Apple confirmed that it doesn’t want to stay behind for long with the iPhone – Apple AI is coming.

Apple AI is on the horizon with new features

According to 9to5Google, during Apple’s quarterly earnings call yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed the company is working on generative AI features and will be discussing it more later in the year, likely with the iOS 18’s release.

According to Apple’s CEO,

In terms of generative AI, which, I’d guess, is your focus, we have a lot of work going on internally as I’ve alluded to before. Our MO, if you will, has always been to do work and then talk about work and not to get out in front of ourselves. And so, we’re going to hold that to this as well. But we’ve got some things that we are incredibly excited about that we’ll be talking about later this year.

However, Cook didn’t reveal any further details on Apple AI – not even revealed the devices and platforms the AI will grace with its advent.

But we speculate iPhone will be the center of Apple’s AI universe.

A few days ago, a code found in iOS 17.4 indicated Siri to get new powers – AI for summarization, smart reply to messages, and AI integration across multiple in-house applications, i.e., Apple Music.

We can expect the company’s AI integration to come with iOS 18, which will likely be unveiled at the WWDC 2024. As usual, we expect the company to hold the event in early June, where we will get more detailed info on Apple AI.

If you’re on ChatGPT Plus, you can add relevant GPTs to your chats https://knowtechie.com/chatgpt-plus-users-can-add-custom-gpts/ https://knowtechie.com/chatgpt-plus-users-can-add-custom-gpts/#respond Wed, 31 Jan 2024 18:21:36 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=360373 OpenAI has introduced a new feature for ChatGPT, allowing paid subscribers to seamlessly integrate specific Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs) into ongoing conversations.

By typing “@” followed by a selection from the available GPT list, ChatGPT Plus users can infuse their chatbot chats with specialized AI applications that are contextually aware of the entire thread, enhancing the relevance of responses.

For instance, if you want to find information about a specific film, you can type in @film, which will display a list of customs GPTs that match it.

As part of their aim to broaden GPT usage and interactivity, OpenAI recently unveiled the GPT Store–a hub where users can browse and engage with these AI-powered tools right from ChatGPT’s interface.

Thanks to a user-friendly design, building and deploying GPTs doesn’t require programming knowledge, resulting in a diverse array of applications.

Currently, offerings range from Khan Academy’s coding helper to Canva’s creative assistant. Think of it as Alexa Skills but for your personal chatbot.

However, scaling up GPT integration isn’t without its challenges.

For one, moderation bottlenecks emerged as the GPT Store was quickly populated with questionable chatbots during its initial launch, resulting in a swift response from OpenAI’s combined human and machine review system.

The road ahead is framed with the necessity for vigilant moderation and strategies to increase user engagement.

Success in this space spells richer, more personalized AI interaction for users and opens new revenue avenues for developers, creating an ecosystem thriving on creativity, utility, and ethical AI use.

OpenAI addresses ChatGPT account security breach https://knowtechie.com/openai-addresses-chatgpt-account-security-breach/ https://knowtechie.com/openai-addresses-chatgpt-account-security-breach/#respond Wed, 31 Jan 2024 15:46:57 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=360268 OpenAI has confirmed an incident involving unauthorized access to a ChatGPT user’s account, shedding light on potential vulnerabilities within its security framework.

According to reports, the breach, initially thought to be an internal glitch revealing chat histories to unrelated users, was actually the result of a targeted account takeover.

This incident and the recent AI-powered deepfakes of Taylor Swift have sparked a broader conversation about the security measures in place for AI-powered platforms and the need for enhanced user protection protocols.

Here’s what happened in ChatGPT

A smartphone with the ChatGPT app open lies on a patterned surface next to a pair of glasses, suggesting a work or study scenario.

The breach came to light when a user from Brooklyn, New York, noticed unfamiliar chat histories appearing in his ChatGPT account.

OpenAI’s investigation revealed that these unauthorized accesses originated from Sri Lanka, suggesting a deliberate attempt to compromise the account.

“From what we discovered, we consider it an account take over in that it’s consistent with activity we see where someone is contributing to a ‘pool’ of identities that an external community or proxy server uses to distribute free access,” a OpenAI spokesperson wrote to ArsTechnica. “The investigation observed that conversations were created recently from Sri Lanka. These conversations are in the same time frame as successful logins from Sri Lanka.”

Despite the user’s confidence in the strength of his password, the incident underscores the sophistication of methods used by attackers to gain unauthorized access.

Technical vulnerabilities exposed

Further examination revealed that the ChatGPT platform had several severe vulnerabilities that could be exploited to take over accounts and view sensitive chat histories.

https://twitter.com/naglinagli/status/1639343866313601024

Among these was a critical web cache deception bug that allowed attackers to harvest user credentials, including names, emails, and access tokens.

This discovery points to a pressing need for OpenAI to reinforce its security measures and address potential loopholes that could be exploited by cybercriminals.

Privacy concerns and industry response

Now, keep in mind. This isn’t the first time this has happened.

Privacy concerns were great enough for OpenAI to add an incognito mode to ChatGPT last year. This limits how many conversations are retained, but it still has a rolling 30-day history.

In response to growing concerns, companies, including prominent tech giants, have begun to limit or restrict their employees’ use of ChatGPT and similar platforms, aiming to mitigate the risk of proprietary or sensitive data leakage.

One notable name is Samsung, which banned generative AI tools like ChatGPT in May 2023, after noticing internal source code being returned by queries on ChatGPT’s chatbot.

OpenAI’s Response

The tech community has responded with a mixture of concern and calls for increased vigilance in the use of AI services, emphasizing the importance of removing personal details from interactions wherever possible.

OpenAI has acknowledged the incident and is reportedly taking steps to investigate and fortify its security protocols to prevent similar breaches in the future.

Yup, we’ve heard that before, but let’s hope they mean it this time.

Samsung breaks silence on Galaxy AI’s pricing for the future https://knowtechie.com/future-samsung-galaxy-ai-pricing/ https://knowtechie.com/future-samsung-galaxy-ai-pricing/#respond Tue, 30 Jan 2024 15:27:05 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=359593 Samsung introduced the Galaxy AI at the Galaxy Unpacked 2024, alongside the Galaxy S24 series. However, during the announcement, the company also mentioned that Galaxy AI will remain free for customers until 2025.

Samsung obviously didn’t clarify the statement, which gave rise to several speculations.

Fortunately, T.M. Roh, Samsung’s mobile chief, has disclosed the company’s plans with Galaxy AI after 2025.

What is Galaxy AI’s future?

T.M. Roh discussed with ET Telecom, where he confirmed what we already knew.

He stated that Samsung has invested an enormous amount of resources in the development of the Galaxy AI, and it will remain free until 2025.

Now, the question is, what happens after 2025? Well, it’s a shocker – Samsung doesn’t know either.

Roh told the outlet that the company hasn’t made any decisions about the Galaxy AI’s future while limelighting the idea of more powerful AI features in the future for paid subscribers.

According to our analysis, there are various needs for mobile AI. So, there will be consumers who will be satisfied with using the AI capabilities for free. Then there could also be customers who wish for even more powerful AI capabilities and even pay for them. So, in the future decision-making, we will take all these factors into consideration.

That said, the company has over a year to decide about what to do with the Galaxy AI.

Meanwhile, Roh also mentioned the Korean company’s plans to bring its AI tech to over 100 million devices worldwide this year.

Previously, Samsung confirmed its new AI tech will be coming to several older flagship handsets, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series in 2024.

If we include the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 on the list, Samsung will easily achieve its 100 million target worldwide.

Arc Search delivers AI-powered browsing to your iPhone https://knowtechie.com/arc-search-ai-powered-browsing-on-your-iphone/ https://knowtechie.com/arc-search-ai-powered-browsing-on-your-iphone/#respond Mon, 29 Jan 2024 20:35:46 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=359309 The Browser Company has launched a new app for iPhones, called Arc Search, which promises to revolutionize the browser experience.

In a world where new products and apps launch every week, Arc Search is designed to help users keep up, bringing everything they are searching for to them quickly and without distractions.

What Arc Search does is scour the internet for an answer to your question, from social media to news outlets to blogs, seeking a way to present the information to you in a tidy and neatly packaged way.

Instead of using Google to look for the information yourself, you just launch Arc, type in your query like “Who made it into the Super Bowl?” and wait for the app to build you an answer.

Arc Search can browse for you and create summary sites

https://twitter.com/joshm/status/1751734580124787028

The app summarizes the content it found so you don’t have to read a ton of articles to get the information you need.

It clears the clutter, and blocks ads, trackers, and banners. If you want an even cleaner mode, you can go for the Reader Mode to keep distractions at bay through a minimal design.

The Arc browser is a breath of fresh air, mixing the power of an AI chatbot with those of a search engine to get you the perfect summary.

The browser is intuitive and designed for 2024’s internet usage and beyond, bringing a new level of creativity and productivity to users.

While the browser experience can be overwhelming and distracting, Arc Search is hoping to revolutionize this by offering a faster, cleaner, and more efficient browsing experience for iPhone users.

Arc Search is still in its early stages, and The Browser Company is welcoming user feedback to improve and create a differentiated browser experience for all. Overall, Arc Search is a promising app that every iPhone user must check out.
