Now, Motorola seems to be gearing up to launch its successor, the Motorola Razr Plus 2024, in the US. For the global markets, it is likely to be named the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra.

The latest report by Smartprix, in collaboration with Steve Onleaks Hemmerstoffer, revealed multiple Motorola Razr Plus 2024 spec details, indicating that the next update will be worthwhile.

Motorola Razr Plus 2024 rumored spec details

First and foremost, the Motorola Razr Plus 2024 is expected to sport the same 6.9-inch 2640 x 1080p OLED inner folding screen and a 3.6-inch cover screen as its predecessor,  the Razr Plus 2023.

Under the hood, the next Moto Razr Plus will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 12GB RAM, and 256GB of internal storage.

However, the most interesting part is the cameras. The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 could see upgraded cameras.

According to the report, the Razr Plus 2024 will get a 50MP primary camera and a 50MP 2x telephoto camera. In contrast, the 2023 model has a 64MP primary camera and a 13MP ultra-wide camera.

On the front side, the 32MP camera will remain the same.

The rest of the specs include a slightly bigger 4,000 mAh battery, an IPX8 water resistance rating, and could feature wireless charging.

The next Moto clamshell handset is rumored to be powered by Hello UI based on Android 14 and Motorola’s usual AI features.

Apple refreshes iPad Air with M2 chip and adds new 13-inch size https://knowtechie.com/ipad-air-models-announced/ https://knowtechie.com/ipad-air-models-announced/#respond Wed, 08 May 2024 16:02:45 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=412499 Apple launched new iPads yesterday, and while the presentation was brief, it was one of the most impactful in years.

The iPad Air now comes in two sizes, 11 and 13 inches, powered by the M2 chip. The base model also comes with double the storage at 128GB.

Apple also launched iPad Pro models with OLED panels and equipped them with the M4 chip, the first time it has used the new M-chip in an iPad before a MacBook.

Let’s dive into what else is new on the iPad Air.

Apple iPad Air 11-inch (M2)
$599.00

The iPad Air now comes with the M2 chip, and the front camera is moved to the long edge for better video calls when in landscape mode. It also has twice the storage on the base model, now at 128GB.

Apple’s iPad Air lineup now consists of two variants: an 11-inch and a 13-inch model. iPad Air fans finally have a second-size option, like the iPad Pro and the base-model iPad.

Both 2024 iPad Air variants come equipped with the M2 chip and are available in four color options: blue, purple, starlight, and space gray.

$799.00

The iPad Air now has a larger 13-inch variant for those who want a larger tablet screen without the premium price of the Pro models.

What We Like:
  • Powerful M2 processor
  • Selfie camera moved to long edge for better video calls
  • Double the base storage at 128GB
What We Didn't Like:
  • Touch ID still being used
KnowTechie is supported by its audience, so if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the sale.

The price starts at $599 for the 11-inch model, and you have to pay $799 for the new 13-inch model—they’re available to order on Apple’s website.

The design remains the same, and the new iPad Airs have the same front-facing 12MP camera and a 12MP camera on the back.

A minor but impactful change is that the front-facing camera is now on the side of the screen instead of the top. That’s perfect for video conferencing using the Magic Keyboard or other stand.

Another significant change is that iPad Air’s base model now has 128GB of storage, double that of the previous generation. However, it still uses the Touch ID on the power button.

In addition, both new iPad Airs can use Apple’s existing Magic Keyboard accessories and support for the Apple Pencil Hover feature, which was previously exclusive to the iPad Pro.

So, if you want a bigger Apple tablet, you can now do it without paying the hefty premium dedicated to the “Pro” models.

The $499 Google Pixel 8A comes with AI and 7 years of updates https://knowtechie.com/google-pixel-8a-launched-for-499/ https://knowtechie.com/google-pixel-8a-launched-for-499/#respond Wed, 08 May 2024 15:24:48 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=412232 The Google Pixel 8A is official, with a quiet launch ahead of Google I/O later this month.

It is the first time Google has launched its premium mid-range handset unceremoniously without an official event.

Like the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, the Pixel 8A has seven years of software support, which is unprecedented for a mid-range smartphone.

However, the handset leaked in recent weeks, so only a few surprises were left.

Pixel 8A retains the general design and size of its predecessor. The corners are slightly more rounded, keeping in line with the Pixel 8’s general design language.

It has a 6.1-inch screen with a couple of updates, like the refresh rate is 120Hz, up from 90Hz, and the peak brightness goes up to 2,000 nits.

2024 is the year of AI, and Pixel 8A doesn’t disappoint

Pixel 8A has the same generative AI photo and video features that pushed the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro to the top of the chart, including Best Take, Magic Editor, and Audio Magic Eraser.

In addition, Circle to Search is also available, and Pixel 8A is the first handset in its budget range to run Google’s mobile-based AI model, Gemini Nano (coming in a later feature drop).

The rest of the specs remain mostly unchanged compared to the Pixel 7A. There’s still 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but a new 256GB storage option is available.

As early leaks indicated, the camera hardware remains the same as Pixel 7A, with a 64MP primary sensor.

The battery is slightly larger at 4,492mAh, up from 4,385mAh. Charging also remains the same, up to 7.5W through Qi 1.3. IP67 dust and water resistance rating is also available, consistent with the Pixel 7A.

Although the Pixel 8A remains mostly the same, starting at $499 in the US, Google has placed its new premium mid-range handset in an unprecedented position.

It’s almost like Google competes with itself, with no significant brands operating in the same price range, which only leaves last year’s Pixel 8, which was launched at $699 but gets discounted frequently.

Pixel 8A is available for pre-orders and will start shipping on May 14.

The second coming of the Pixel Tablet

Google didn’t launch the Pixel 8A alone. The Pixel Tablet returned for an encore, with a lower price that drops the fancy charging dock.

Google first launched the 11-inch Pixel Tablet a year ago. However, this second launch makes the magnetic Charging Speaker Dock optional.

The price has also changed. The Pixel Tablet is now available at $399, $100 less than its launch price. The pricing will likely compete against the base-model iPad, which starts at $349.

How to watch Apple’s Let Loose iPad event https://knowtechie.com/apple-let-loose-ipad-event-how-to-watch/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-let-loose-ipad-event-how-to-watch/#respond Mon, 06 May 2024 14:46:03 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=409447 The first Apple event of 2024 is nearly here. The “Let Loose” event has the Cupertino firm all set to introduce the next-generation iPad Pro, iPad Air 6, and new iPad accessories.

It has been a while since Apple introduced new iPads. Now, we’re getting a rare event that promises to bring some of the most significant improvements to the range in years.

The virtual event might be significantly shorter than prior showings, with an estimated 35-minute runtime. There will also be an in-person element in London after the virtual launch.

With impressive upgrades on the cards, you might want to watch along as the latest iPads get unveiled.

So, here’s how to watch the “Let Loose” iPad event from home.

When and where to watch the Apple “Let Loose” event

Apple’s “Let Loose” event will take place in less than 24 hours on May 7 at 7 am PT/10 am ET.

The “Let Loose” event will be virtual, so there’s no need to pack your bags and attend in person at Cupertino, as Apple will bring all the iPad action live directly to your screen.

However, the event timing will be different if you live on the other side of the globe or traveling.

So, here are the timings to watch the “Let Loose” iPad event live from different time zones.

  • New York (EDT) – May 7, 10:00 am
  • London (BST) – May 7, 3:00 pm
  • San Francisco (PDT) – 7 May, 7:00 am
  • New Delhi (IST) – May 7, 7:30 pm
  • Beijing (UTC) – May 7, 10:00 pm
  • Tokyo (JST) – May 7, 11:00 pm
  • Sydney (AEST) – May 8, 12:00 midnight

How to watch the “Let Loose” iPad event

If you are interested in watching the event, and of course you are, Apple is finally ready to introduce new iPads for the first time since 2022; do yourself a favor and stay here at KnowTechie.

Just relax. You don’t need to burden yourself by meticulously typing an address into the URL bar, as we have embedded the live stream below.

Stay here and watch as the “Let Loose” event unfolds.

However, taking care of a few things before starting would be best. First and foremost, you need a reliable and compatible device to stream the event or even the iPad you’re considering replacing.

  • Mark the Calendar: First, jot down the date and time of the “Lety Loose” event. If you are having trouble, refer to the timing listed above; we have covered all the major timezines.
  • Secure a Good Internet Connection: Ensure you have a good and stable Internet connection. Apple is expected to launch multiple products within a 35-minute video presentation, so there won’t be a single moment to waste.
  • Device Check: Ensure the device you have selected is capable of streaming the event. You can use anything, including a Windows PC or Android smartphone, a tablet, iPad or iPhone, a MacBook, or even a Smart TV.

Here’s where you can watch it:

These are the only options for watching. However, that’s all you need if YouTube works great on your device. If you are unsatisfied with YouTube’s frequent advertisements, subscribe to YouTube Premium for a better ad-free experience.

What to expect at the Apple “Let Loose” event

With only a few hours left, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports the Cupertino firm will introduce new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in a short 35-minute video presentation.

However, that’s not all. The new iPad Pro models will receive considerable upgrades, and a larger iPad Air 6 will be introduced at the event alongside new iPad accessories.

A new era of iPad Pros (11-inch and 12.9-inch)

ipad pro 2022
Image: KnowTechie

The next-generation iPad Pro models will be the stars of the event. As far as we know, the new models will have multiple upgrades but no design changes.

The most significant change will be the new OLED panels for “Pro” iPad models. Apple is known for its uncompromising display standards and is reportedly using the best OLED panels on the market

The OLED panels will finally bring new features to the “Pro” iPad models, lacking since 2021. These include better brightness and a more balanced contrast level, making blacks look deeper and darker.

In addition, the 2024 iPad Pro models, both 11-inch and 12.9-inch, are getting thinner, courtesy of smaller components required for the OLED panels. The 12.9-inch model shrinks by 20%, and the 11-inch model shrinks by 15%.

A significant reduction in the iPad Pros thickness also means less battery space, which is concerning. However, we expect the new OLED panels to compensate for that shortcoming with better optimization.

Under the hood, a lot more is changing. We expect Apple to use its own M3 silicon on these iPads. However, a recent report mentions the company may skip the M3 and go for the M4 silicon

Although it’s confusing, there’s no need to fret. Regardless of Apple’s decision, the iPad Pro will get a new and improved chip.

Apple is continuing the base model iPad tradition and is expected to shift the FaceTime camera on the 2024 iPad Pro models to the landscape position.

This seemingly minor change has huge implications for the usability of video conferencing and is a welcome one.

We expect to see a price bump due to all these modifications. So, expect the price to go up at least $100, possibly more.

iPad Air 6 with a new larger 12.9-inch model

apple ipad air 2022
Image: KnowTechie

We expect the iPad Air 6 models to accompany the iPad Pro models. And yes, we said “models,” as for the first time, Apple is ready to introduce a 12.9-inch iPad Air to the lineup.

That change means iPad Air fans will finally have two sizes to choose from, just like the iPad Pro and standard iPads.

Early rumors indicated that the 12.9-inch iPad Air would feature the same Mini-LED panels as the current iPad Pros. We now expect both iPad Air 6 models to use the same display tech as the previous generation.

Beyond the new form factor, the models are expected to follow the same pattern as the iPad Pro, with the front-facing camera position on the long edge, and are likely to sport Apple M2 silicon.

New Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 3

ipad pro and magic keyboard
Image: KnowTechie

The current Magic Keyboard is exceptional. However, it prioritizes form over function. The upcoming Magic Keyboard promises to be different.

First, it is expected to be iPad Pro exclusive; we would love to be wrong in this assumption. The biggest change with the new Magic Keyboard will be its aluminum base, which will improve the typing experience and make it feel like typing on an actual laptop.

Apple Pencil 2
Image: KnowTechie

Lastly, we expect Apple to unveil the third-generation Apple Pencil with a new feature set that includes haptic feedback.

The hallmark features like magnetically swappable tips will be there, alongside new features like Find My integration and a squeeze gesture for additional functionality.

New iPads are nearly here

It’s rare for Apple to organize an event in May. However, it has been a long time since Apple introduced notable upgrades to the iPad lineup.

We are incredibly excited about the OLED panels on the iPad Pro models, how they will improve the iPad Pro experience, and the new 12.9-inch iPad Air 6.

We’re sad that there are no leaks about the iPad mini. It’s long overdue for an overhaul unless sales figures show it’s not worth the effort.

Is OLED the decider in upgrading your iPad? Want the rumored tactile feedback of the Apple Pencil 3? Drop us a line in the comments below, or carry the discussion to our Twitter or Facebook.

Nintendo Switch 2 could get better battery life than the Switch https://knowtechie.com/nintendo-switch-2-performance/ https://knowtechie.com/nintendo-switch-2-performance/#respond Fri, 03 May 2024 11:11:33 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=406455 It’s no secret anymore that Nintendo is working on the successor of its most popular handheld platform, the Nintendo Switch, which will apparently be named the Nintendo Switch 2.

We don’t know much about the Nintendo Switch 2, except for the rumor that it may get a larger but inferior display and that the launch may have been pushed back to 2025

However, the latest Nintendo Switch 2 leak concerns its performance. It suggests the Switch’s successor will have improved performance in docked mode but inferior performance in handheld mode, affecting battery life.

Nintendo Switch 2 battery life will differ in docked and undocked modes

nintendo switch sports tennis
Image: Nintendo

The latest Nintendo Switch 2 information was revealed during a conversation between content creators Moore’s Law Is Dead and The Phawx during the Broken Silicon Podcast (via IGN).

Based on the discussion, the next Switch will get Xbox Series S-level ray-tracing, and the battery life will differ significantly from the original.

Moore’s Law further explains that based on what he heard, the Switch 2’s battery life will be clocked faster than expected in the docked mode. However, it will be crazy low in handheld mode.

Presumably, Nintendo is trying to enhance the Switch 2’s battery life, at least by making it better than its predecessor.

The Phawx said the company aims to expand the battery life but also wants the console to perform on a low RPM fan.

However, this is still a rumor, coming from a discussion between two creators, so don’t take this as.

There have been a few Nintendo Switch 2 rumors, but only a few are worthwhile.

The most recent credible rumor came from a Nintendo executive during a Q&A session. The executive hinted at backward compatibility to allow users to play old Switch games on the next-gen platform.

Either way, the second credible rumor comes from the Japanese outlet Nikkei, which states that the console will be released in 2025.

Even though the platform has billions of users globally and top-notch security, Meta is never shy from making it better.

The platform recently introduced the Passkey feature for its iOS version, and now, the latest WhatsApp update has introduced two new features.

According to the company’s blog post, these new features are dedicated to bringing communities closer together.

WhatsApp will keep rolling out new features over the next few months

WhatsApp further explains the new features trolling out are for WhatsApp Communities. One of the features is event planning, and the other is replies in Announcement Groups.

The first feature, Events, will initially be available to groups in Communities and accessible from the group’s information page.

The feature will allow users to plan events directly from the app, including birthdays, dinner parties, or virtual meets.

The post further explains that anyone from the group can set up an event, and others can RSVP, letting everyone else know who will attend. Attendees will be notified when the event is near.

The second feature is to organize replies properly in announcement groups.

As the name suggests, the point of this feature is to stop clogging up the feed with replies, and users will be able to respond from Admins.

According to the post, the platform will keep rolling out new features for communities and groups in the coming months to help people organize their lives on WhatsApp.

Sony Xperia 1 VI leaks with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, new cameras https://knowtechie.com/sony-xperia-1-vi-specs-leak/ https://knowtechie.com/sony-xperia-1-vi-specs-leak/#comments Fri, 03 May 2024 10:37:43 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=406354 According to Sony’s recent announcement on its Japanese website, the company is gearing up to announce its next flagship, the Sony Xperia 1 VI, on May 17th.

Except for the Xperia 1 VI render leak, which disclosed the new boxy design language, the company has done an excellent job keeping all the secrets until now, as a fresh new report has appeared, painting a complete picture of what to expect from the Xperia 1 VI.

The report comes from the folks at MSPoweruser, who somehow got their hands on exclusive Xperia 1 VI details. While they haven’t mentioned a source, the report unveils everything from the unreleased handset’s design to the hardware.

Xperia 1 VI design & display

Smartphone with multiple Zeiss cameras, side view.
Image: MSPoweruser

Starting right off the bat with the Xperia 1 VI design. While Sony is keeping its slab-like design, the Xperia 1 VI is getting slightly shorter and wider than its predecessors.

However, the new report mentions frosted textured glass on the back.

Besides these changes, the same horizontal grooves will be present on the side of the handset, like in previous generations.

The usual Black and Platinum color schemes are coming back for another try. The Xperia 1 V was launched in a Khaki Green color scheme. However, we are unsure if the 1 VI will get the same option.

Sony is making the Xperia 1 VI slightly shorter and wider, affecting the display’s aspect ratio. A previous leak mentioned a 19.5:9 aspect ratio; today’s report corroborates it.

However, today’s report also adds the Xperia 1 VI will sport an OLED panel with variable refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz.

It also means the 1 VI could lose its 4K display, another piece of info revealed by the older leak. However, it seems Sony is ready to compensate for the lack of a 4K panel by making the display 1.5 times brighter, Bravia HDR remaster tech, and a boost feature for better outdoor visibility.

Xperia 1 VI hardware & performance

Black and white Sony smartphones with triple cameras.
Image: MSPoweruser

In addition to a new design and a slightly lackluster display, the Xperia 1 VI could sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which isn’t surprising; the previous generation ran the Gen 2 SoC.

The report also mentions an improved heat dissipation due to using a vapor chamber.

A 5,000 mAh battery will power the handset with wireless and reverse wireless charging support. The report further says to expect the battery health technology.

The leak further claims the Xperia 1 VI will sport a new high-performance audio chip and circuit improvements to enhance sound in addition to Hi-Res Audio, 360 Reality Audio, LDAC, and DSEE Ultimate.

And the 3.5mm audio jack is coming for another year.

Xperia 1 VI cameras & features

Comparison of Photography Pro and New Camera App interfaces.
Image: MSPoweruser

The next Xperia 1 will sport three cameras on its back in a vertical setup. There will be a 16mm ultrawide-angle lens, a 24mm wide-angle lens(48mm with 2x optical zoom), and an 85-170mm telephoto zoom lens(up to 7x zoom).

The leak also says the photo snapped with the new 24mm lens will rival the full-size cameras.

Sony’s camera app is also changing. Instead of a single app, Sony has divided it into Photography Pro, Videography Pro, and Cinema Pro.

In addition, Sony is also taking smartphone gaming seriously. The Xperia 1 VI will reportedly sport a 240Hz touch scanning rate, adjustable white balance, low gamma raiser, and an FPS optimizer. There’s also something for the movie addicts.

Finally, the latest leak doesn’t include a price. However, a few days ago, an older leak from Smartphone Digest revealed a price tag of around $1,233. But we can’t confirm the leak’s validity.

Samsung indirectly confirms it’s working on Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-7-ultra/ https://knowtechie.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-7-ultra/#respond Thu, 02 May 2024 10:30:11 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=405377 Samsung is gearing up for the next Galaxy Unpacked event, which is apparently set for July 10, a bit earlier than Samsung’s usual schedule. The Korean tech giant is expected to unveil the new Galaxy Z foldable phones, the Galaxy Ring, and the Galaxy Watch 7 series at the event.

This year’s Galaxy Watch 7 lineup will be different from its predecessors. While we are unsure of all the details or even how many smartwatches will be in the lineup, the latest report suggests that at least one premium smartwatch will be in the collection.

Samsung recently announced its financial results and said it is looking to “new premium models” in the smartwatch category in the second half of the year.

Unfortunately, that’s all Samsung has said about the matter. However, the statement could be read as something the company plans to do in the future to boost its sales by introducing new products.

SamMobile sees it as a hint that the previously rumored Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra is indeed in the works.

Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra: The Phantom third model in the series

A collection of watches.

A third Galaxy Watch 7 model has been rumored for a while, but no concrete details have emerged to calm the matter.

Even before this evidence came to light, Android Headlines spotted a firmware build for a smartwatch model that the outlet believed to be the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra.

Although, some speculate it is the Galaxy Watch 7 Pro.

Either way, the Galaxy Watch 7 will likely consist of three models: the Watch 7, the Watch 7 Classic, and the Watch 7 Ultra.

However, this is all just speculation and rumors. For the official confirmation, we need to wait until June 10, when Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, the Galaxy Ring, and more.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 said to be on track for September launch https://knowtechie.com/apple-watch-ultra-3-minor-upgrade/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-watch-ultra-3-minor-upgrade/#respond Thu, 02 May 2024 10:22:09 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=405249 Apple Watch X is rumored to be Apple’s next leap in revamping its smartwatch lineup. At the same time, there are numerous uncertainties about the next Apple Watch, even its launch; it’s also uncertain whether it will be accompanied by the next “Ultra” variant, the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

However, a fresh report suggests the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is on track for a September release, but it will be more like a minor upgrade.

Apparently, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told MacRumors that the upcoming Apple Watch Ultra 3 would only get minor upgrades over its predecessor, the Apple Watch Ultra 2

It’s disappointing that the analyst didn’t share any more details, but it follows a trend that recently made a microLED Apple Watch Ultra unlikely

Underwhelming upgrades for the Apple Watch Ultra 3

While last year’s Apple Watch Ultra 2 was a minor upgrade from the original Ultra Apple Watch, it was still considered the best Apple Watch with a phenomenal display.

But doing the same for another year, Apple is pushing its luck a bit.

Of course, Apple could surprise us with new watchOS features, as we are unsure what the company has planned for the upcoming watchOS 11.

In addition, Apple could launch the Apple Watch Ultra 3 with the new S10 chip, which will be the rebranded S9 chip with minor tweaks.

Although it’s disappointing news, it’s not a complete disaster, especially considering that last year, Kuo revealed that the next Apple Watch Ultra may not land in 2024.

At least we are getting a new Apple Watch Ultra.

However, the biggest hurdle for the Cupertino firm would be if one of its competitors releases an “Ultra” smartwatch.

Samsung is likely the first in line, as the possibility of a Galaxy Watch Ultra has been hinted at for the next Galaxy Unpacked event, set for June 10.

iOS 18 to bring improved task management to iPhone https://knowtechie.com/ios-18-calendar-app-update/ https://knowtechie.com/ios-18-calendar-app-update/#respond Thu, 02 May 2024 10:03:20 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=405348 Apple is all set to preview iOS 18 at its annual developer conference, WWDC 2024, slated for June 10, if It follows its usual tradition.

Even though the company has yet to confirm anything, we know a fair bit of details about the iOS 18 update and what modifications it may bring to Apple’s renowned mobile platform, and the new leak suggests a giant leap for the Calendar app.

iOS 18 was already rumored to bring AI-powered features to Apple’s mobile platform, Home Screen changes are on the way, and four apps (Notes, Mail, Photos, and Fitness) are getting revamped.

According to the latest report by AppleInsider, the Calendar app is also getting modifications courtesy of the iOS 18 update.

A promising update for the Calendar app with iOS 18

According to the report, Apple is ready to bring task support to the Calendar app by closely integrating it with the existing Reminders app. There will be no need to launch the Reminders app separately.

As usual, the publication cites people familiar with the pre-release version of iOS 18 for this info and claims the same change is coming with macOS 15.

Tapping or right-clicking an area within the Day, Week, or Month views in pre-release versions of the new Calendar app will reveal an option that prompts the user to either set a reminder or schedule an event,” the report explains. “Both can be scheduled from the same UI element, allowing for greater convenience.

The report also confirms that users will have to add a title and note or tag to set a reminder through the Calendar app.

However, we still need to consider this is just a leaked report and not an official confirmation from Apple. So, in the end, the plan could change.

Either way, the WWDC is just over a month away, and we don’t have to wait long for the official preview. Unfortunately, if the company sticks to its usual schedule, the public release will not come until September, alongside the iPhone 16 series.

New leak says Google Pixel 8A will start at $499 in the US https://knowtechie.com/google-pixel-8a-price-leak/ https://knowtechie.com/google-pixel-8a-price-leak/#respond Wed, 01 May 2024 08:05:25 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=403878 The Pixel 8A leaks were out of Google’s hands long ago. The search engine company’s next mid-ranger has been leaking steadily through renders and ads for a while.

Only a single piece of Pixel 8A information was left out—the price, and finally, that had also come to light two weeks before the launch.

A report from Smartprix has revealed the pricing for the Google Pixel 8A. The 128 GB variant will apparently cost $499 in the United States.

The 256GB variant, on the other hand, will cost extra at $559.

However, we can’t say that we are surprised. While multiple hinted at an increased price for the Pixel 8A, we were skeptical.

Even though 8A is coming with moderate upgrades, they don’t justify a price bump for two consecutive years.

Last year, Google launched the Pixel 7A at $499, though the phone is frequently available at lower prices, courtesy of multiple sales and discounts.

Pixel 8A is getting a new 256GB variant

The most interesting part about the latest Pixel 8A leak is not its price; it’s the addition of a new 256GB variant.

In the past, Google launched the Pixel A series devices, including the Pixel 6A and 7A, with a single 128GB storage option.

However, this is a good decision on Google’s part, as another storage option may help attract more customers, especially those who consider 128GB too little for their needs.

The leak also includes several Pixel 8A marketing images. While the photos look good, they reveal nothing exciting or new.

One of the images shows the Circle to Search feature and makes it a highlight of the Pixel 8A.

Google Pixel 8A is rumored to feature the Tensor G3 SoC, the same cameras as the Pixel 7A, and a slightly larger battery with 27W wired charging support. If today’s report is accurate, there won’t be a price hike.

However, we still suggest taking the information with a grain of salt. Even though the report is from a reputable publication, at the end of the day, it’s still a leak, not an official announcement.

Nothing’s set in stone until Google announces the Pixel 8A on May 14 at the Google I/O 2024

Safari to get new AI features with iOS 18 and macOS 15 https://knowtechie.com/ios-18-safari-ai-features/ https://knowtechie.com/ios-18-safari-ai-features/#respond Wed, 01 May 2024 07:59:26 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=403165 It’s no secret that iOS 18 will bring numerous new features and make significant changes to Apple’s mobile platform. In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted that with iOS 18, iPhone users will see the advent of AI. However, the specifics of the AI features are still vague.

The unreleased iOS update is rumored to overhaul multiple apps, including Mail, Notes, Photos, and Fitness, as well as the iPhone Home Screen. However, it appears Apple’s home browser Safari will get a few modifications courtesy of the iOS 18 update.

The latest report by AppleInsider claims that the Safari browser on iOS 18 and MacOS 15 will get major updates.

Safari to get AI-powered search and more with iOS 18

Image: KnowTechie

The report discusses the first upgrade: Safari’s AI-powered search, which will significantly benefit users with features like text summarization on the Arc browser.

Ajax, the on-device large language model (LLM), will apparently help scan the text here and then identify and summarize the topics.

However, the biggest update coming to Safari 18 is the web eraser feature, and as the name suggests, it enables users to remove certain things from the website they are visiting.

It can be helpful, especially if the report is accurate. The feature is reportedly capable of eliminating ad banners, images, text, and other stuff.

Although the exciting part is that Safari will remember the changes even after closing the tab.

Something special for Safari on macOS 15

Image: KnowTechie

On the other hand, Safari 18 on the macOS 15 will reportedly include an enhanced address bar, similar to the one on the iPadOS.

In addition, a few design tweaks will be added to improve Safari’s UI and make it usable across different Apple platforms.

Interestingly, the report also discusses an upgraded version of the Visual Look Up feature that could debut in 2025.

Visual Look Up is a helpful feature currently limited to images of pets, plants, and landmarks. However, the report indicates the upgraded version will allow users to identify images across different applications.

While the report states that Apple is testing these features internally, there’s a pretty good chance that some may not make it to the stable build.

However, we can’t say that for sure, and we will get a definite answer on June 10 at the WWDC 2024 when Apple previews iOS 18 and macOS 15.

iOS 18 rumored to overhaul four apps in addition to overall redesign https://knowtechie.com/ios-18-four-apps-overhaul-rumor/ https://knowtechie.com/ios-18-four-apps-overhaul-rumor/#respond Tue, 30 Apr 2024 13:17:02 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=402933 Apple has back-to-back events set in the coming months, kicking off with the “Let Loose” event on May 7 to announce the new iPads and accessories; after that, it’s straight to June 10 for the company’s annual developer’s conference, the WWDC 2024

iOS 18 is set to be announced and previewed during WWDC 2024, and rumors say it will be one of the landmark iOS updates in recent years, with numerous changes and making Apple’s beginning with AI

In the recent edition of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, the renowned journalist has said the same but with additional details.

According to the journalist, the next version of iOS will indeed be a big one, but it won’t be on the same level as iOS 7.

The journalist further claims that Apple plans to overhaul several of its popular applications, including the Mail, Photos, Fitness, and Notes apps.

New changes are coming to the iPhone Home Screen, too

A recent leak already hinted at Apple’s famed Notes app’s new Voice Notes and Math Notes features

However, Gurman claims that in addition to the Notes app, the Mail, Photos, and Fitness apps are set to get cool new features, which seems more promising.

Gurman doesn’t stop here. He further states that big new changes are coming to the iPhone Home Screen

Users will be able to pin app icons anywhere they’d like, even outside of the normal grid,” he writes. Gurman further notes iOS 18 “will also include design tweaks that make it more modular (easier to update and customize).

Let’s not forget the rumored Apple AI inclusion with the iOS 18 update. Previous rumors suggested Apple is planning to boost at least a few apps with AI; the obvious expected candidate is Siri.

Besides Siri, AI integration was set for the Messages app, Xcode, Apple Music, Pages, and Keynote app. And now, add the Mail, Photos, Notes, and Fitness apps to the mix.

Even though Gurman states the overhaul won’t be as significant as iOS 7, it still sounds like an iOS update worth waiting for.

However, we have to wait a bit for the preview. It’s not coming until June 10, and the public release is way later in September, alongside the new iPhone 16 series, unless Apple deviates from its tradition.

Apple Pencil 3 may get haptic feedback and new gestures https://knowtechie.com/apple-pencil-3-haptic-feedback/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-pencil-3-haptic-feedback/#respond Tue, 30 Apr 2024 13:08:50 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=402913 Apple announced the “Let Loose” event a few days ago to officially unveil its next-generation iPad models after keeping quiet all throughout 2023.

At the event, the Cupertino firm is expected to announce the new iPad Pro models, which will sport state-of-the-art OLED panels and Apple’s M3 silicon (although a recent report claims it will be M4), and the new iPad Air 6, including a larger 12.9-inch variant.

However, the new iPads won’t be the event’s only attraction. Apple is also announcing the third-generation Apple Pencil, the Apple Pencil 3, with new features.

According to the latest edition of the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, Apple Pencil 3 could get haptic feedback. However, the report doesn’t mention how it would be used.

The pencil could deliver different feedback depending on the mode, like a digital paintbrush, pen, crayon, etc. But this is all speculation.

On the other hand, Apple Pencil 3 could get a new squeeze detection mechanism based on the references found in the iPadOS 17.5 beta.

In addition, Apple is rumored to bring Find My support to the upcoming Apple Pencil, making it easier to locate.

Of course, if all these speculations become real, Apple Pencil 3 will stand out among its third-party alternatives.

It could inspire rivals like Samsung to add more features to its S Pen Pro. The S Pen Pro already supports the SmartThings app, but neither haptic feedback nor pressure gestures.

There’s also the case with Magic Keyboard

Image: KnowTechie

Let’s not forget the last rumored item for the event: a new Magic Keyboard for the next-gen iPad models.

The Magic Keyboard is Apple’s premium tablet accessory; according to rumors, it may get a facelift. But no other details are available outside of using an aluminum base and adding a larger trackpad.

The new iPad Pro, iPad Air 6, Apple Pencil 3, and the new Magic Keyboard will be unveiled next week on May 7, followed by the WWDC 2024 on June 10, where Apple will likely announce the next iPadOS update.

Apple using the best OLED panels for new iPad Pro, says report https://knowtechie.com/apple-ipad-pro-oled-panels/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-ipad-pro-oled-panels/#respond Tue, 30 Apr 2024 12:59:27 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=402829 It’s no secret that Apple is gearing up to announce the next-generation iPad Pro models with OLED panels for the first time. A few days ago, the company even announced the “Let Loose” iPad event for May 7 to announce these new slates.

With only a week left for the event, a new report has shed light on the OLED panels Apple has used on the next-gen iPad Pro models

Dedicated display analyst Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DCSS) is at work again and has revealed that Apple is equipping the new iPad Pro models with OLED panels.

The Cupertino firm has selected the “best OLED tablet panels on the market” for its new tablets. In a note to the investors, Young claims,

The OLED iPad panels are expected to be by far the best OLED tablet panels on the market with LTPO, 120Hz refresh, a tandem stack and glass thinning resulting in ultra-thin and light displays with high brightness, extended battery life and long lifetime.

Only the best OLED panels for iPad Pros

Image: Apple/KnowTechie

The road for the 2024 iPad Pro models is already paved. The new Apple flagship tablets are not getting any significant makeover; only the FaceTime camera is rumored to change spot—from vertical to horizontal.

The Pro Apple tablets are also rumored to receive the new Apple silicon, which we suspected to be the M3 chip, but recently, Mark Gurman claimed in a report that Apple is skipping M3 and heading to M4 for the new iPad Pros.

It’s a convoluted claim, to say the least, but today’s Ross Young’s report is all about the OLED panels.

The analyst elaborates further after stating that Apple is using the best OLED panels in the market.

These OLED panels use organic material to emit light, and they don’t require a backlight like LCDs.

Each pixel is illuminated individually, resulting in better contrast and blacks due to their ability to reduce brightness and blackout pixels in the darker areas.

However, the downside is that the panels are prone to OLED burn-in. When Apple launched the iPhone X back in 2027, the company claimed to have addressed the issue, but we will have to wait and see what happens with the iPad OLED panels.

ipad pro and magic keyboard
Image: KnowTechie

Apple currently uses regular LED panels for the 11-inch iPad Pro and Mini-LED panel for the 12.9-inch variant.

Mini-LEDs use backlight to balance the contrast and produce perfect blacks like the OLED panels, but not as efficiently.

Young also states that the OLED panels Apple is employing are thinner due to the absence of backlighting, and because of this new display tech, the new iPad Pro models will be thinner

Either way, the wait is only a week. We will be able to fill in the blanks after the May 7 virtual event, which will apparently be accompanied by an in-person event in London.

Comcast’s Peacock is raising subscription prices by $2 again https://knowtechie.com/comcast-peacock-subscription-price-hike/ https://knowtechie.com/comcast-peacock-subscription-price-hike/#respond Tue, 30 Apr 2024 12:14:21 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=402965 It’s getting increasingly difficult to pay for streaming platforms as they are getting more and more expensive.

Comcast’s Peacock is one of the popular streaming services and the latest to join the price hike parade. However, this isn’t Peacock’s first time.

The platform was launched in 2020 and has already seen its first price hike in the middle of last year. The Peacock Premium subscription cost had gone from $4.99 per month to $5.99 per month after a $1 increase.

On the other hand, the price of the Peacock Premium Plus subscription increased by $2, from $9.99 to $11.99.

In addition, the platform has ended its free tier and is only available to those who previously had it.

Unfortunately for Peacock subscribers, even after eliminating the free plan and increasing the subscription fee last year, the platform is at it again this year.

New prices of Peacock subscriptions

the office streaming on peacock
Image: KnowTechie

According to The Verge’s report, Peacock is ready to raise its subscription fee again this year by $2 for both Premium and Premium Plus plans.

So, the Premium subscription fee will go from $5.99 to $7.99; meanwhile, the Premium Plus will cost $13.99, up from $11.99.

  • Peacock Premium Plan (ad-supported): $7.99 monthly or $79.99 per year
  • Peacock Premium Plus Plan (ad-free):  $13.99 monthly or $139.99 per year

While Peacock’s price will be hard on the wallets of its subscribers, Comcast seems to be following the trend of its competitors.

The price hike announcement comes right after Disney Plus, Netflix, and HBO Max‘s price hike and password-sharing crackdown measure.

The platform likely considers this the right time for another price hike, even though Comcast recently announced that it had gained 3 million new paid subscribers, bringing the total to 34 million.

That said, there’s nothing we can do but open our wallets. The price hike will be effective from July 18 for new subscribers and August 17 for existing subscribers.

Google Pixel 8A ad leak confirms most rumors weeks before launch https://knowtechie.com/google-pixel-8a-ad-leak/ https://knowtechie.com/google-pixel-8a-ad-leak/#respond Mon, 29 Apr 2024 12:43:04 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=400906 It happened again! Last year, the promotional video for the Google Pixel 8 series had leaked just days before the launch in October and now, the same thing has happened with the Pixel 8A

The 30-second Pixel 8A advertisement was shared by the reliable leaker Steve “OnLeaks” Hemmerstoffer in collaboration with MySmartPrice

However, Google was swift in its action and pulled the video off the internet within a day, but not before we had a peek.

While the Pixel 8A ad leak confirms everything we already knew

Five blue smartphones with mountain wallpapers displayed.
Image: KnowTechie

Unfortunately, the 30-second advertisement doesn’t reveal anything we already didn’t know.

In the past few weeks, there have been many Pixel 8A leaks, revealing the unreleased handset in every angle.

We know the hardware isn’t changing much. The Tensor G3 will power the Pixel 8A, like the rest of the Pixel 8 series. There will be seven years of software support and pretty much all the Pixel 8’s AI features.

Pixel 8A will be coming in four color schemes: Obsidian, Porcelain, Bay, and Mint. Interestingly, the Mint color wasn’t shown in the ad.

The Pixel 8A’s only major highlight is its battery and charging capability. While the battery is getting slightly bigger, the wired charging support is getting a big boost — to 27W.

So, if there were any lingering doubts about the Pixel 8A, this ad put them to bed—unless Google decides to remove a feature at the last minute in light of the leaked ad; we don’t see the possibility of any last-minute additions.

Image: KnowTechie

The only missing piece of the puzzle is the Pixel 8A’s price. Google bumped up the cost of its Pixel A series handsets last year, making the Pixel 7A $499, and we expect the Pixel 8A to be the same price.

Until a leak confirms the price, it will remain just a speculation.

Either way, the official launch is just around the corner. Google is expected to announce the Pixel 8A at the Google I/O starting May 14.

iPhone 16 dummies reveal new camera island and a larger Pro Max https://knowtechie.com/iphone-16-design-leak-with-dummies/ https://knowtechie.com/iphone-16-design-leak-with-dummies/#respond Mon, 29 Apr 2024 12:17:22 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=401061 The iPhone 16 rumor mill has started grinding at full speed, even though Apple is tightlipped about the whole thing. In the latest leak, the iPhone 16 dummy units have appeared again, depicting what to expect from the upcoming iPhone series in terms of design.

To be precise, X/Twitter user Sonny Dickson posted an image of four iPhones, a dead giveaway based on the camera island design.

Interestingly, the camera sensor size on all four iPhone 16s in the image sports is the same, which will not be the case with the originals, leading us to believe there will be minor differences between these dummies and the final release.

iPhone 16 Pro Max set to become the biggest “Pro Max” ever

The redesigned camera module on the vanilla iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will be the first thing you will notice, which doesn’t look exactly the same as the iPhone X, but similarities are there.

Next, you will see the iPhone 16 Pro Max with the alleged 6.9-inch display, making it the biggest “Pro Max” ever.

Last year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max had a 6.7-inch display, so a 0.2-inch increase isn’t significant but makes the “Pro Max” model completely unworthy of small hands.

Besides these, the dummy units don’t reveal any new information.

We would have loved to see the button placement, as all four iPhone 16 models are rumored to get the Action button, which was previously exclusive to the Pro models.

On the other hand, the iPhone is also tipped to get a brand-new Capture button. However, we assume it will be exclusive to the “Pro” models.

If Apple follows its usual schedule, the iPhone 16 is expected to land in September alongside iOS 18. The latter is rumored to bring new AI features and multiple advancements to the UI, and we will likely get a preview of it at WWDC 2024

2024 iPad Pro may get the M4 chip for AI features, skipping M3 https://knowtechie.com/ipad-pro-m4-silicon-leak/ https://knowtechie.com/ipad-pro-m4-silicon-leak/#respond Mon, 29 Apr 2024 11:45:22 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=400902 Apple has recently announced the “Let Loose” event to launch its next-generation iPads. As the launch nears, a new report has completely changed what we know about the upcoming iPad Pro models

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared an interesting titbit about the iPad Pro models in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter.

According to the famed journalist, the unreleased iPad Pro models may actually be powered by Apple’s M4 silicon, skipping M3 altogether.

New iPad Pro leak brings more questions than answers

ipad pro 13 on a purple background
Image: Apple/KnowTechie

Now, this is a surprising twist. Information about the 2024 iPad Pro models has been leaking for a while, informing us about the OLED display, reduced thickness, and repositioned FaceTime camera, but none about using the M4 chip instead of the M3.

According to Gurman, the M4 chip will result in the advent of AI features in the new iPad Pro range, courtesy of the upgraded Neural Engine.

However, the M4 chip is scheduled to arrive to the Macs later in the year, and debuting them with the iPad Pro range is a tough pill to swallow.

Gurman is the uncrowned authority when it comes to Apple-related leaks. However, there’s a lingering doubt regarding Gurman’s report now, especially because M3 is barely six months old.

In addition, Apple Silicons usually get prominent releases, and in the same newsletter, Gurman states that the “Let Loose” event should be brief, just under an hour.

So, even though it’s Mark Gurman, who is very accurate, the report is difficult to fathom. The event wouldn’t have been brief if Apple were introducing new Silicon, as Apple would need time to boast about the M4 chips and how powerful they are from previous generations.

Gurman also hasn’t clarified which AI features are coming to the iPad models, as most AI-related features are focused on the iOS 18, slated for the WWDC 2024

In addition to the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models, Apple is also expected to unveil the iPad Air 6, featuring a larger 12.9-inch model, new accessories for the iPads, and the Apple Pencil 3 at the “Let Loose” on May 7.

Apple’s “Let Loose” event to have in-person element in London https://knowtechie.com/apple-let-loose-special-event-london/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-let-loose-special-event-london/#respond Mon, 29 Apr 2024 11:32:33 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=401124 We are just over a week away from Apple’s “Let Loose” event, at which the Cupertino firm is rumored to unveil the new iPad Pro and iPad Air models and the Apple Pencil 3. While Apple initially stated that the May 7 event would be virtual, that does not seem entirely accurate.

According to The Independent’s Andrew Griffin, Apple will stream the event globally. However, it will be accompanied by an event in London.

In addition, Griffin states that it will mark a significant departure from Apple’s tradition of California-based launch events.

What to expect from Apple’s “Let Loose” event

apple ipad air 2022
Image: KnowTechie

Now, we are unsure what Apple has in store for the London event, which will be the first Apple event outside the US at Apple’s new Battersea Power Station offices and accompanying store, which opened last year.

Besides that, Apple is expected to launch the new iPad models at this event after not delivering a single tablet in 2023.

It will be a big event for the iPad fans, as we are expecting the M2 iPad Air 6 models that include a larger 12.9-inch variant for the first time.

Apple has moved Macs to the M3 silicon, and it’s time for the iPad Pro models. Most importantly, we can see an iPad with an OLED panel for the first time.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman stated that Apple may skip the M3 and bring the M4 for the new iPad Pro models.

Even though the report comes directly from Mark Gurman, the authority on Apple leaks, we are still skeptical—food for thought until the event date arrives.

Also, expect a new Apple Pencil, which is supposed to sport new gestures and new iPad accessories.
